You need the 18" Lanyard for a Challenger buddy.

I always thought that the E Body lanyards were 23 inch. I have an original beat up set from a 1971 Cuda and they were 23 inch. Maybe the Challenger was different?

18" for Challenger....shorter because no header panel to go over that Cuda has, which makes the Cuda ones longer at 23".

There is an error in that diagram, the top toothed washer should be a convex black zinc washer, the bottom toothed washer is correct.

Yep....I agree. Not a flat washer. If someone doesn't post a pic tonight, I'll post a couple tomorrow.

Also. the bottom nut should be flat cut on one end, the end that cozy's up to the toothed washer. The other end of it is tapered on each corner of the nut. Unfortunately, you will not find either the washer or the nut I just referred to in an NOS hood pin kit, Challenger or Barracuda.

Well, I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree. I've owned a few NOS hood pin kits for the 1970-71 model cars and a pair of convex black phosphate washers were included and one pair of the star washers. As were the unique nuts you speak of. I have many leftover pieces and one complete kit left. I also have the pointed 1969 NOS hood pin kit also. Some of the 1970 style kits had clear zinc star washers and nuts and some had the yellow (rainbow) dichromate on both. I also have an original set from a 1971 Cuda with the yellow or gold dichromate nuts and washers. Pics later as I'm not home at the moment.

The toothed "star" washer is a unique piece and there has been a pair in every kit I've owned.

While we're on the topic of lanyard lengths, does anyone know for certain what car would get a 26" lanyard?

Thanks Ken, Do you know what year? I have a NOS 1969 hood pin kit with the pointed top pins and the lanyards in the kit are 18". Maybe these 26" ones are for 1970?

Dwight, heres a few pics of some NOS hardware that I have. These are what I always thought were the correct pieces to look for when installing factory hood pins. Everything matches perfect all of the pieces that I removed from a 1971 Cuda with original pins.

Check out how some kits with the gold dichromate hardware also have gold dichromate crimped ends on the lanyards. Stainless steel on one end...gold dichromate steel on the other. Usually, the ends are stainless steel on one end and dark grey phosphate or dichromate steel on the other.

like this... Or maybe it's just a really dark dichromate and not a phosphate at all.

That photo doesn't look like phosphate at all, more like a yellow chromate, perhaps over zinc or CAD

So.....if I read you correctly, whether it is a 70 or 71 Challenger or Cuda....the hood pin kits should be identical "except" the lanyard length in that the hardware should include the following:

One Pair - Correct Plates

One Pair - Plate Gaskets

Eight - Plate Mounting Screws - (For Steel Hood)

One Pair - Lanyard End Mounting Screws

One Pair - Plastic Coated Lanyards (Challenger - 18", Cuda - 23")

One Pair - Flat Pin Clips

One Pair - "Coarse" Thread Pins

One Pair - Convex Black "PHOSPHATE OR ZINC" Washers....??

Four - Special/Unique Nuts - (Finishes vary from what I am reading??)

One Pair - Star Washers - (Finishes vary from what I am reading??)
