Buying a lunati hydr roller for my 512 build. Heard of oiling issues with the lunati lifters and some issues with the comp cam lifters. Anyone suggest a reliable part #? Johnson's look good but are big money from what I've seen

Excellent results with crowers....

Figure out what you need in terms of valve spring for that cam and how high you want to spin the motor, then pick your lifters accordingly. I was in your position and was going to have to use the Morel pro/race series of lifters before I decided to go solid roller. The Morels are definitely spendy, but they're quality. I recall they also require a motor oil no heavier than 10W40.

I have the less expensive ones from Hughes Engines, but don't have many miles on them to tell how they will hold up?

I believe morel makes the lifters for lunati. The more im reading it seems like the oil groove issue was related to the solid lifters, haven't read that about roller lifters for big block mopars.

I run crane hyd roller lifters on a comp roller cam. I havent heard of any issues and I did ask around a lot before I bought them. So far so good. Morel would be my next choice.

When I die I want to go like my Grandfather did, quietly in his sleep. Not screaming like the passengers in his car.

I'd be willing to bet quite a lot that Crane, Comp, etc have lifters made for them by one of the two lifter manufacturers left in the US.

R.

For example, Crower, Isky and Cam Motion all sell Johnson Hylift lifters.

My recommendation is Crane. I have worked very closely with a vender that supplies BBC Chevy marine engines to the Navy. We have been running Crane Hydraulic rollers since the late 90's. It has probably been at least 10 years or more since we had a lifter failure. These are on engines that spend most of their life at 4000 + rpm. They live their life way harder than most drag engines or street cars. Also probably over 300 engines during that time.

Switched to Morell when Crane went through their issues and no issues with them either. Moved back to Crane when they started manufacturing again.

I used a set of crane in my BB and they torched me
they kept collapseing and the push rod would fall out, and crane did not want to know any thing
I had 220 on the seat and 20w50 oil and they said that should be ok, I went to a solid roller and never looked back
