Morning gang,

I'm going to start diving into correcting a few "incorrectness" on my T/A and was planning on starting with something simple: Axle markings.

My car is already restored and devoid of any markings, so I've been digging around and found some examples that are fairly close to what I think mine would have come with. I figured I'd run this across the board, and in typical Moparts style, wait for some intelligent responses and also have the smattering of "You're Stupid! My Mom can beat up your Dad..." responses which are always enjoyable. So, here's what I'm thinking would be correct and a few things I'm unsure about:

Car: 1970 Challenger T/A, SPD 4-06, 3.55 Sure Grip axle codes on BS are in two places: Line #2 = D56, and Line #4 = 076

Axle Housing: Semi-gloss with the rear dome showing a large yellow "E" and a smaller white circle with an "X" through it. Left side tube showing the 3-digit axle code and also showing a 3-Digit date code under the u-bolts. This date would be about 30-60 days out from my SPD I'd assume.

Axle Carrier: Natural cast. For the 3.55 ratio, three white slashes followed by an Orange slash on the underside of the carrier's main rib. Axle filler plug slopped with an Orange blop. Under the left side rib, a 3rd member assembly date, white, and 3-digits. Pinion nut: white inspection blop.

Questions: The 3-digit axle code on the tube, would that be "076" as indicated on the BS? Would both assembly dates, the one on the axle tube and the one on the rib of the 3rd member, be about 30-60 days out from the SPD of the car? Two B-Bodys that I have restored that had the dates visible show the 3rd member date only about a week or so out from the SPD, but the date on the tube is further at about 30 (and one over 6mos!). Is that consistent on the E-body side of things too?

I've seen some other markings here and there from B-Bodys I've restored, but this being my first E-Body, I don't want it to look like a clown factory under there and only put on the markings I know would have commonly been there.

Thanks gents!

Cheers

The yellow "076" is correct, should be on the driverside near the u bolts. Im sure more will shim in about the date code on third member and tube I think the dates can be little closer than 30 days before car was built. Sometimes there is a letter behind the digits in the date codes, would be intresting to know what they means? There is usully a orange paint daub near the drain plug, and crayon mark ( 2 digits) above the date code on third member on the driver side.. can show pic for reference later. I have used cheltenham bold font for dates etc..

Thanks
Nicklas

The date code on the axle housing on my AAR Cuda is 12 days before the build date of April 7.
