I'm running an older Hughes Hydraulic flat-tappet, HE3844AL.
Specs are: .535/.540 lift, 237/243 dur. @ .050", 286/290 adv. dur., 108 LSA
This is in a 360 motor (9.8 statis CR) in my M-body coupe. With a single plane Holley Strip Dominator, Dynamic 3800 converter, 3.91 gears the car went 13.13 @ 102 mph the one and only time I had it at the strip this past season - I thought this was a bit slow.
Prior to the track outing I went from Perfomer RPM intake to the single plane and lost a noticeable amount of low end torque...going back to the Perfomer RPM over the winter break and hoping to get into mid-12s once I do a pile more tuning, etc, etc.
Recommendation wise, I would not go bigger then anything like the Hughes SEH3642AL-8. You will probably like something a bit smaller with the 3200 stall.

I`d keep the intake and tune the ign. and carb fully and you might be surprised..........

guessing on your weight of the car and altitude (sea level?), I'd say that puts you over 400 hp at the crank. That's no slouch of a 360. But yeah, same question as above, limiting factor may be the heads
Unless you're going well over 6,000 my own personal preference would be to stick to the dual plane
Looking for 1975 through 1978 B body 4 door sedan sheet metal or parts cars - monaco, fury, coronet. Please let me know

Just out of interest what heads are you running Diplomat?
I went with a set of 596 castings, I had the machine shop go over them. New Manley severe duty valves, 2.02/1.60, 11/32 stem, new bronze guides, and a standard 3 angle valve job. I ported them using the MP porting templates, here are the flow numbers (flowed on SF-600 @ 28" water):
LIFT I E
0.100 67 57 0.150 99 79 0.200 130 104 0.250 162 125 0.300 189 140 0.350 215 152 0.400 235 160 0.450 253 167 0.500 262 172 0.550 261 175 0.600 248 177
Nothing crazy, but good enough for a DIY job...LOL...I had fun, satisfaction and new-found appreciation for those guys who do this type of work for a living.

Intake manifold is killing the mid range that you are pulling through. Only way to cure that is to have a converter that flashes to 4500ish for overcoming the Strip Dom weaknesses.
I have a couple strip doms hanging on the wall for a reason... Fuel delivery could be an issue for lack of MPH.
A comparative from a slightly stronger, solid cammed combination. With a smaller cam, I'd expect the lower rpm delta to be the same or even worse.

Thumperdart: The car is really a street car...and the "butt meter" was reading noticebly higher on the fun factor with the Performer RPM intake. My ignition is a standard MP distributor with the chrome ECU and Yellow coil. I do run an already fast advance curve that has been changed over from the stock configuration. Initial timing is 21 deg, max machanical is 36.
VincentVega: Car (per the local scale) is about 3400 lbs with 1/4 tank of gas, 3600 lbs. w/ driver (175 lbs).
I'm running anti pump-up lifters with that Hughes cam. Motor spins up to 6500 easy, but on the track you can tell it flat-lines right around the 6300 mark.
My goal for this season is to re-focus on the Carter TQ tuning. The spread-bore configurations of the Holley single plane intake was what attracted me to it, otherwise I need to run an adapter on the Performer RPM. The wide-band O2 readings did show me running to rich...so it needs some work.
aspenrt360: Sorry for a bit of a tangent on your original thread, not meaning to, just wanted to give a more complete picture of the framework the cam I'm talking about is being used within.
