If so... why ?

Have you looked at actual factory specs or gotten out your tape measure and actually measured it ?
I'm pretty sure it's not the only model that the track width is wider on the front than the rear and it may have been done that way for a reason ?
Have you asked this in the handling forum, they would have a definitive answer I am sure.

no, just asking about what visually is obvious... and reason why could be. Never though could be the front disc setup making that, but wondering if also another reason now

And when you "upgrade" to disc brakes on an earlier A-body with the 73 up parts... your front wheels are noticeably outward! Take a look at your local car cruises, you'll be able to pick them out. Well, maybe not where you are....
Hard to see 67/72 A bodies still with front drums locally. They are normally already converted, since they use to be daily drivers, so disc conversion has being a common demand for them
The track width shouldn't be different drum vs. disc when original model year correct parts are used.

It's when you put the complete '73 up disc brakes on a 67 to 72. It's very noticeable, and wrong size tires will hit the fender.

I think 8 1/4"
8 3/4 wasn't available to A bodies since 73. I think 8 1/4 was the bigger

Look at the rear of your car if there are bolts on the housing then it's either a 7 1/4 or 8 1/4. The 8 1/4 is more oval looking. If it's smooth and half a hemisphere it's an 8 3/4. I don't believe they're all the same width.
