Wanted to see if anyone had done this. I've seen the BLP drill kit for SBC that would work, just prefer an actual nozzle. Was thinking of inside pan rail mount with a separate feed. Any ideas or pictures of what you've seen?
Thanks,

I have a couple of R3 blocks that have the piston oiling. Just a small hole through block to an oil passage. I blocked mine off as they would not have been a good deal on a drag race motor with low tension rings. Bill
Hi Bill,
I have an R3 as well. Do you have a pic of where the holes are located?
Thanks, Craig

Who used to build the early Craftsman Truck engines that used the R3? Hensley? Arrington? That is where I would at least research the subject in more detail. Doubt the PS truck programs used squirters.
Mopar to the bone!!!

Is this question regarding your twin turbo build?
Yes. Stef's was supposed to put squirters in the pan when they built it. I got it back with no squirters and was told' "we don't mess with that anymore". I had the pan built from them expressly for the squirters! No other company will "modify" another's dry sump pan, I've tried them all. So now I need to build my own. Probably do something like the old SB2 Cup motors with a tube on each side of the pan with squirters and a separate feed.

As soon as you mention R3 to Arrington you get immediately referred to Ritter...
I'll just build a tube down each side with a single pan mount feed. I've looked at a few old Cup pans and have seen everything from tubes to billet spray nozzles. I bought 3 different sets of billet nozzles from surplus Nascar stuff really cheap, so I hope to figure something out.

Whatever you do; secure the nozzles properly. My R3 block has provisions for nozzles stuck inside behind the main bearings, and there are holes drilled through the main web aiming for the piston. There is also a groove in the main web that leads the oil from the center oil hole and to these nozzle holes. I do not have the nozzles, but they appear to be straigth, maybe with a collar so they cannot slip through the holes.
That is the BLP kit on yours. Hole should be threaded.

Why do you feel its necessary to use the oilers on a R3 block.. I ran mine up to 9600 a few times and 8200 all the time... never had them but I did use a dry sump and by rights that took more oil out of the lower end... is this for a road race set up that will be run for a sustained period of time

This may be OT, but are these jets continuous, or pulsed? Seems like they would not be as effective at TDC because of distance, and wonder it the objective is to have underside piston heated? oil thrown off at BDC? Not sure how this is supposed to all work, or is just a flood the piston and forget it solution?, it that's the case a separate oil cooler for this spray would seem to be an advantage.
OEM jets usually have a pressure relief feed. Above a certain pressure they crack open and oil. Most of the performance stuff is constant oiling, but are usually a dry sump system with lots of oil pump.
The objective is pin oiling and carrying away heat from the piston top. Multi stage dry sumps suck almost everything up, oil vapor and splash, leaving the pin and piston crown vulnerable to heat. I'm turbocharged and my engine is more endurance that short drag race blast, so LOTS of heat.

Yep. This car is a track day burner and will see some time on the salt flats. RPM is low, 6500, but output is high, 750-1600 HP depending on boost. Obviously the high boost is for the Flats or Monster mile only. Car will live at 750-1000 HP for street/track. Gotta love turbos!
I'm running a Dailey 5 stage pump, so not concerned with the added demand of oilers.

So I gather that your trying to find out what size of a jet you need

I have double and triple checked mine as far as trajectory since I had to shorten and slightly bend mine and at no time during the pistons travel will they squirt the cylinder wall. I noted this before I changed them and that is how they were stock. So whoever designed them at Chrysler made sure of that aspect, just an FYI.

That would be my idea also.. very directional to keep it off the walls

No, I just wanted to see if anyone had done it and see how they set it up. Don't want to spend a ton of time figuring it out if someone has already did it!

Yes, absolutely. The oiler needs to be pointed at the bottom of the piston, inside the skirt, and stay there through the entire revolution.
