The R5 program I was involved in used 3 squirters, 1 aimed at the exhaust pocket, 1 at the plug, 1 swept along the pin axis between the pin bosses as the piston moved from BDC to TDC. Squirter sizes were between .018"-.024".

I think 3 might be a tall order to fit inside the R3. I'm either shooting from the pan rail or snaking a tube along the webbing into the cylinder. I was going to aim at one side of the pin/piston bottom and angle the jet so it swept to the other side during the stroke. What is your opinion one using one and where to aim?

If you can position the squirter to sweep the pin and the exhaust pocket area, that's about the best you can do with one squirter, lot of heat in that exhaust pocket with a turbo. Make sure your piston guy puts at least a .090" or more lower radius in the valve pockets and a .500" or more radius between them. High hp/heat wedge stuff likes to crack between the valve pockets.

Thank you. I appreciate your info. Luckily I run a dished piston without reliefs. So in theory, the heat shouldn't be isolated to a particular area, but should dissipate evenly through the smooth dish?

I have a couple of R3 blocks that have the piston oiling. Just a small hole through block to an oil passage. I blocked mine off as they would not have been a good deal on a drag race motor with low tension rings.
Bill

Hi Bill,

I have an R3 as well. Do you have a pic of where the holes are located?

Thanks,
Craig

Craig,
I'll try to take some shots over the weekend and post them.
Thanks,
Bill

Yes, no pockets at all is even better.

Whatever you do; secure the nozzles properly.
My R3 block has provisions for nozzles stuck inside behind the main bearings, and there are holes drilled through the main web aiming for the piston. There is also a groove in the main web that leads the oil from the center oil hole and to these nozzle holes. I do not have the nozzles, but they appear to be straigth, maybe with a collar so they cannot slip through the holes.

My 358WC block had this also. We blocked it off. My WC R5's have the same. One has the hole in the rod to feed the pin. I've seen this behind the main bearing feed done at a shop. Just a line bore bar offset with a smaller base circle to cut the offset groove behind the bearings. Then drill the passage on CNC.

Hi, Leon!
Have you seen the EDM pin oiler extended with a groove and top hole in rod to spray the pistons? Should be a good idea? Thought of using this on a turbocharged G3 Hemi with dish pistons that are extremely thin in the center...../clearanced for the rod

Should'nt be to hard to convert a Gen III over to factory 6.1 or 6.4 jets.

Mopar to the bone!!!

Don't think I have. The block I had looks just like the above picture posted.
