I just bought a passenger side mirror for my '69 Cuda. The driver's side mirror that is currently on it is symmetrical all the way around. The passenger side one that I have is supposed to be for a '69 Cuda, but is not symmetrical all the way around. It is narrow on the side towards the car, and fatter on the outside. Before I install the passenger side on it, is this correct for the car?

Hi

I have an original here
the outer edge is just over an inch deep
while the inner edge (near the door glass) is about 1/2" deep

looks correct to me

but the sharpness of the edges doesn't look as sharp as my original

Wouldn't surprise me that it was like that considering it's being viewd from the drivers seat , the angle is most likely because depending on how it's adjusted the edge of the mirror would be outside the edge of the mirror housing ?

It's been a long time since I've had a pass side one of those mirrors.

Yes they are angled for the driver.

When you get them on, tell us if you can actually see out of it and use it in normal driving.

My original coded for passenger mirror still does not angle inward enough for me to see anything useful out of it. Even though it has that angle in it like posted above. I know many other A-body owners that say the same.

My Challenger only came with a DS mirror. I feel a little uncomfortable driving it without a PS mirror. My 68 Dart was the same way, that's why I'm adding a PS mirror during the build. I guess I need to put the drivers seat in place and mock up the mirror to see if it's usable in the factory location. I could always move it forward or back since no holes are drilled yet. If it doesn't match the location of the DS, that might look funny though.

A big thanks to Tony and to Mike Ross for filling me in on the correctness. The mirror is installed and looks great. I'm a big fan of symmetry. As far as function, in the factory location, it's not that useful. But I didn't want to alter the location, as we did a mock-up and it was very noticibly incorrect and that would have driven me more crazy than not being able to see very well. This is one of the first times I have chosen form over function.

30 years ago I bought an NOS mirror like that for my 67 Barracuda. It came with a paper template to layout the holes for installation on different models. I remember that when we tried to lay out the holes with the template, the mirror was in a different position than the drivers mirror was. So we just measured the position for the drivers mirror , and installed the passenger mirror in the same relative position. The mirror will not move far enough in adjustment to be very useful. I have always wondered if maybe the factory intended it to mount a little different than the drivers mirror so it would work better, or if we had missed using the template properly ?

I did the same symmetry thing. Bought a used right mirror and mounted it just like the driver's mirror. It's worthless there. But sure does look good!

The problem is that if you put the mirror where it is more useful the wing window may not open all the way, been there, done that.

And how often do you really look at a passenger side mirror ?
