Find any power or see any e.t difference? If you were using vacuum pump did you remove it?
I've been using a drysump system for better than 15 years...can't say I saw any et. Differance at all, but the biggest single thing that sold me was having oil psi. In the shut down area... Other advantages as talked about above we're easy priming of the oil system, cooler oil with volume , oil with less air intrained in it... As far as taking the vacuum pump off... My motor pulls 17" of vacuum with both the oil pump and vacuum pump... Take the belt off the vacuum pump the the motor drops to 8" of vacuum and looses 25 hp.

If 9 lbs of vacuum is costing you 25hp....I believe I would take it back to your builder and tell him to fix it.

That was a suggestion not an insult. A few on this board clearly need to chill.
Simple as this....if you have efficient ring seal - even with the most exotic of ring packages....you will be hard pressed to gain 25hp fro the system in total. If you loose 25 on 9lb....you didnt get it done......dont bother trying to convince me otherwise.
Maybe its not me that doesn't understand "real racing engines"
Just for your info... vac is measured in inches of HG not pounds

If "proper" is so important. ...why didnt you use the modern scale for gauging vacuum.....kPa.....and your welcome.
I guess your gonna ALWAYS BE RIGHT... no matter what anyone says... keep calling it POUNDS of vac.. if your happy then thats all that counts.... by the way.. my gauges read both... but in the USA we tend to use inch of HG... maybe you call it pounds of KPA.. I tried to help you out with just a little info and thats all.... do what you want

Regarding vacuum with only a dry sump pump. Reas this thread, it is possible to have 17" in some motor combinations. http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1134290&highlight=
Yeah, a good dry sump pump these days should be able to pull up to 20" or more depending on how fast you want to spin it. My new Peterson pump will pull more than 15" when I'm running at 50% of crank speed.
As for the other debate, if the rings package is designed to work with a crankcase vacuum then running the engine without a vacuum will drop the HP a bunch. That is just the way the engine is designed and it doesn't mean that the engine is built wrong. Super narrow rings need the help from crankcase vacuum to seal. That is why a Pro class engine will lose 50 hp if you put a breather on the valve cover. Those engines are designed to be run sealed up with a pan vacuum.
