I'm getting ready to install my engine and trans into my 70 bee. I want to drop the K frame, attach the engine and trans to it and drop the car down over it. I've built a gurney 4 feet long and about 16" wide on 3" casters. I need to know where to go from here. I posted about this a long time ago, so long that the post is gone. One member had a great picture of him raising his early B body with his cherry picker by hooking chains to slots in the frame near the radiator core support. I would like to run this route because the Bee's nose is complete and getting the bumpers, valance and all the hardware off to attach the cherry picker out front would be very difficult.

So tell me your technique and what I should look for. Do I have to remove the tie rods, idler, pitman and center link from the K member? This is a 440 with TTi/CPPA headers. Anything I should look out for here?

Thanks!

I’m listening.

Not sure how you would do it with the front bumper unless you have a lift, but the bottom is the only way to go.

What is the torque on the K frame bolts?

I did mine with the hood off before I had a lift. All you do is get two 1/2" or 3/8" I bolts and hook them in the mounts for the upper shock on the shock tower. I hoisted mine up from the rafters in the shop.

I was trying to follow you but then it hit me, you lifted the body by using the top shock mount holes. That could be done with the bumper on. My only concern would be tweaking the inner fenders especially if fully assembled with all the weight, not sure if fenders off would be better or worse, definitely less weight but the fenders might add some riggity to the inner fenders. Very interesting thought though.

It seems a lot of people missed this ?

I'll ask , since you don't want to take part of the nose off why not just to it the normal way , unless you are in the middle of having to redo the front suspension anyway ?

Way to read, JohnRR!

The hood is perfectly aligned and I don't really want to remove it. I have headers and I don't want to fight with them or risk scratching my fenders or engine bay dropping the engine and trans in. I was planning on this since everyone says it's the way, so I have all my accessories and fan bolted on and ready to go. I know I can raise the car by connecting to the two holes I mentioned. I just need to know what to do with the steering linkage and what the tricks are to getting it done without trouble. For example, I've seen guys do it with the rear axle on jack stands. Others do it on tires. is my 10' ceiling high enough?
