Bummer about your experience. I've used rivnuts in mopar EOM sheetmetal with zero probs.
Really? What do you think went wrong? I see people using them on the internet all the time, i dont understand why these didnt work worth a crap..? Is it because they are hex-shaped? Most i see are round..
You need a rivnut with a serrated shoulder so it grips the hole, plus the hole you drill for the rivnut needs to be the correct drill size, the rivnut just barely fits in it. Try this with another rivnut clean the hole, and make sure there is no oil in it, and put RED LOCTITE on the rivnut before putting it in and crimping it, let it cure for 4 or 5 hours and give it a try ... but if the hole you drilled is too big it's not going to work.

This, plus there are different inserts for different thickness metals, and different for aluminum than steel.

Fixed! Thank God! I got the round rivet nuts with the splines around them and they worked awesome! Something was not right about those hex shaped rivet nuts, they didnt even feel like the round ones when pulling them.
The hex shaped rivet nuts are only for hex shaped holes. Mini vans and SUVs often use them for the roof racks and some pickups use them for the tailgate moulding.
