is it necessary to deck plate hone a filled block? it seems to my pea brain that it wouldn't be.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

With or without always use torque plate for a new finish hone.

I have mine done(with the plates) after filling
the block. Some say they have measured the change,
I'll take their word for it

Carl, I have BHJ torque plates for both the B-RB and 426 Hemi(sold the SB one last year)and a lot of head gaskets, let me know if you want to use it. BTW, I hate filled blocks

You have to remember that most of the thread engagement and resulting distortion is towards the top 1/2 of the bore. Blocks are not usually filled to the top, but it will affect it anyway.

It also wouldn't hurt to torque the main caps before honing with a plate also!

I even went a step further and torqued a head down as well as the mains while the block fill was seting up. Probably overkill

If you have the time, patience and/or money, why not! I've heard of plates bolted on both side for setting up as well as honing. Even heard a rumor of someone running hot water through it!
