Could I make it work with my stock steering wheel? I like the factory look

mine is a B body. I used a similar coupler and gutted the upper shift bowl. The portion where the shift handle attached was opened up to access the release button. Then I spun a 1/8 aluminum disc and tacked it to the hub. I epoxied the bowl to the disc since it was pot metal. Here's the results.

The wheel bolts to the adapter with the 3 threaded holes. The hex is welded to the shaft. To reduce weight the shaft is 3/4" x .090" moly tubing.

i have one of those and had to dress the splines a little bit to get it to slide on a stock shaft.

fwiw i believe the wonderful nhra states any QR adapter must be welded. of course there's only a bazillion cars out there with the steering wheel bolted on. maybe it would be ok if they required an nhra approved steering wheel tether at $200 a copy

I bolted the quick release to back of the steering wheel. The portion that stays on the column. I had welded to the orignal nut down inside the can. Cut a slot for the button (wich I extended) to poke out
I used a 72-74 e body steering wheel only so I could mount my trans brake button
Also used a t style male/female wire connection out of a old wire harness so the wheel could be moved freely when not driving
