Well our season has been finished for a few weeks now. The engine has been prepared for the winter and now we start plotting on what to do for the next season. We had transmission problems for the first 2 events of the season so we couldn't run for points but once the trans was fixed we held top 3 positions the rest of the season. We have been VERY happy with our Goodwin Engine. It is on a whole entire new level compared to the other 650 5" hemi we ran for the last two seasons. Here is a video I put together with 3 pulls that were seen with the GoPro. The tach in the truck doesn't exactly read perfect after 8000. But our Data Logger put the engine between 8700-9200rpm on these runs. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUF77fK-ZKU&list=UUjI6o33f3UOnXTG3EDhmZsg

In what ways is the Goodwin 5" better than the HEMI 99? Aren't the heads you use now a version of the HEMI 99? Was the HEMI 99 a billet block?
The Goodwin head was "based" off the IHRA 5" Hemi 99 head. I guess the same way everything is "based" off something before it. Being Billet, Goodwin was able to changed different angles throughout the head to help. The block is specifically made for those heads so everything lines up like its suppose to. When you look at the valve-train its amazing how straight everything looks. Even compared to the 5" 99 Engine I had before. Everything fits like it was made to fit (because it was lol). Goodwin has a Spintron and I think the engine was safely tested to operate without valve train failure past 11k.
Our other 5" used a Donovan block to fit the heads.

Wow, 11K is amazing
Now I must say we would never run the engine around there. What it does mean is that you can feel "safe" Running in the 9k's. Running the engine in the 9's means changing valve springs every 6ish runs.

Doug that's awesome man!!! I cannot get over how mild mannered that thing is. It sits there at 950 to 1000 RPM just purring like a kitten. Very nice job!

That is awesome Doug. Glad to hear your engine program is finally where you want it to be. You must be one of the only trucks at your level either side of the border running an automatic. That is assuming you still are. I haven't seen anything where you said you switched to a slipper. You know the old puller saying "a clutch is worth 20 feet". as I also run an automatic. Mark
We are staying pretty stubborn with the Auto. This is the first time an Auto failed us. But We are pretty sure it's our own fault. Over the offseason last year the "special" fluid we were using separated.
There are two others trucks in the eastern states that Run Auto's and have a Sonny and Goodwin Engine. They do pretty darn well also. I can't really believe the "20 foot" thing. if thats true we would be winning pretty much ever race by ten feet. Can't figure that.
At the end of the season we wen;t with a higher Stahl Torque and it really helped. There is also one guy trying a lock up converter trans but lets just say...... it wasn't working well.
