Because the look on a mustang owners face when they get beat by a mid-size pick up truck is priceless

Diesel trucks don't surprise anyone anymore. You see a 3/4 ton run a 12 second pass, everyone's like 'meh, big turbo, 4wd launch...anyone can do that'

Because they, like the A body owners, and the B body owners, (and predictably the C and F body owners). CANT AFFORD E BODYS.

There, I answered many questions.

Because I can bracket race a truck like my Ramcharger and I am comfortable driving it. I don't have to deal with torsions bars that interfere with headers, I don't have to build subframe connectors and the Ramcharger has a great big back door that I can feed in a near complete roll cage and I can make an easy connection to the rear bars. It will be unique and the big rear windows allow me to gauge the closing rate of the cars chasing me. I expect to be chased a lot I have owned A, B and C bodies, but never had been interested in E bodies, too small for me.

Trucks are cheap, more room under the hood, and you can cut up a truck without feeling guilty about it. And in many cases, people will laugh at you in the staging lanes, in my case they don't laugh for long. Dave

I race trucks.... because they offer plenty of trunk space for all my extra parts, wheels and tires.

And, because I don't know any better.

The main reason I race a truck is because that's what I had to build from, and I can't afford an A or B body. I like that it's something different, but given the choice I'd have a car.... I just can't find anything that's reasonably priced to build from. I probably don't have more than $5k in my whole truck.... It's not the fastest thing at the track but it sure is fun to drive to the track put race cars on the trailer and then drive home.

I've raced my 6 speed cummins in the Chrysler Classic series, (finished #2 in points one year) race my B body (70 roadrunner) my Hemi Rams, my 300 and others, I'll race anything that has wheels, why? because its racing and I dont care what it is as long as I can go down a track.

Id much rather have a Demon or a Duster put to find a really nice one is just to expensive. I love racing my truck and it catches alot of cars off guard which is alot of fun.

Ok here's my reason why
1983 I bought a 67 factory BB/4 spd Formula S Barracuda (pic 1) put a 440 sixpac in it and ran it on the road for a couple of years. Then decided to make a race car out of it. So while I was in process of doing that I purchased a '79 D100 (Pic 2) for running. Put a smog 440 in it with a "509" purple shaft, Holley street dominator and a Holley 800 carb, and freshened it up, again just for street cursing. Wound up taking it to the track for something to do and it ran an 18 sec quarter spinning the whole way (well most of it) So I put a truck 8 3/4 in it with a sure grip and tried again still only moderate success down to 15 sec quarters, Then the big decision.... put a B body Dana 60 on top of the springs that I moved under the frame, cut the rear tubs to the frame and put a set of firestone 14X32 slicks on it down to high 12's. Pretty much hooked now on running a truck so I sold my "project " 67 Barracuda only to find and purchase my first Hemi (1988) so I put the mildly built hemi in the truck and dropped to low 11's. After a season of that I decided to put a tube chassis under that truck. wound up only improving to low 10's. The Hemi was too nice to keep beating on ( long story but it was basically a brand new '67 WO motor that had been sitting until I bought it in '88) so I built another one out of parts that had been a little more used. Proceeded to run in the 9's with this combo.
So that's one way some one starts racing a Truck
As additional info in 1988 the quickest truck in the nation was running 10.70. So that's one of the reasons I decided to build a tube chassis truck so I could be the fastest, but in the mean Time Koffels place built a B-1 motored Dodge truck that was campaigned in super comp and went deep into the 8sec range. (BTW...pretty fast ET's for the late 80's early 90's) So I came close but no cigar!
Now days every one has a truck!
And all my trucks are Plymouths! another long story
