Hey guys,

I've got a rust bucket '71 Charger I'm scrapping. Today I was trying to remove the door glass and regulators before tossing the doors... but it turned into an exercise in frustration.

I checked my '71 Chrysler/Plymouth/Imperial phone book of a service manual and didn't find it all that helpful.

It appears that I have to remove the 4 fasteners that hold the glass to the lifting track to pull it out. All 4 (3 screws and a bolt) just spin and there doesn't seem to be any way to hold them steady.

It also appears to be impossible to remove the glass without removing this track first. I'd tried to loosen the two vertical glass tracks and pull it all out... I don't think that will work either.

While I'm talking about the two vertical tracks... what the heck were they thinking when they put those two studs on the bottom of the door shell ? Of course they are rusty and square top inside the door is just spinning... and all but impossible to grab with pliers to hold.

I haven't even attempted to remove the qtr. windows yet... but any help would be appreciated.

If it is a rust bucket you'll probably never get the fasteners out. Try drill them out or pull the glass with the regulars together. I've done that way and is a pain but can be done.
Quarter glass is not as bad as the door glass.
The people that designed these car could have cared less about them 5 to 40 years down the road.

some you really have to earn..
soak in pb for hours, even a little heat from a propane torch.
whatever it takes..

I've already pulled the regulators out... as well the inside door lock parts. I've pulled everything from the top of the window channel except the cat whisker... I even removed the up-stops on the glass. The hole seems too small to pull anything else out assembled.

It all been soaking in PB blaster... and I'm wary of using the torch to heat up parts that are touching glass.

If you really want them out as a last resort you could grind down the edge of the door skin and remove it. That is if you are trying to save the tracks and glass and scrapping the sheet metal.

The cats whisker has to come out. Then it's easy.

i was wary myself but i had soaked it in pb for a week
and i was just about to give it up.
mind you the glass was already out of the door and on a bench!
you don't go crazy, just warm up the screw a little for a few seconds.
i was amazed at what a liitle heat did,it almost fell apart..
thats all it took..
