My track day adventures were all in getting there. Heading up to The Joilete Autobahn for the Fall Festival I tangled with a full tread from a "super single" truck tire. About 5:30 AM near Pontiac on I55 I came up to the tire tread in the left lane standing straight up on edge in a circle like a tall doughnut. Semi to my right and no shoulder on the left so I had to go right over it. It really did a number on the front valence and pushed the radiator back into the fan. The valence pulled and slightly tore fender mounting locations. The fan holed the radiator and the right strut rod put a hole in the bottom tank... emergency repairs with epoxy were not successful so home on a flat bed.

Thankfully the K mounted skid plate protected the oil pan. The grill and bumper look OK also.

The car back safe and readily repairable... and I may get it patched up to at least make a showing Sunday. We'll see. Not the day I expected but take it as it comes.

I know Mitch got a run in the AM and hopefully does well this afternoon.

Andrew

I know the feeling. I hit a road gator last May, luckily in my daily driver Stealth, not the Cuda. About a three foot long piece. Dented the hood, so I used it as an excuse to repaint the car.
sure seems like there are more of them along our roadways. Maybe just because the trucking industry is very busy right now, I don't know.

I really like the Star Specs. Good in the dry and wet; they did great cross country from IL to CA and back last year... but not much track time yet.

That is unfortunate, especially needing to flat bed it back home. Pretty rough sharing the same road with trucks.

I was on I80 heading to work years ago just before the I55 bridge. Right in my lane was a metal ramp from a landscaping trailer(the kind with the mesh on it) get the Dynasty in the other lane whats in front of me now...the other ramp from the trailer. Wasn't pretty the car spun 180 degrees and I backed up into the grassy divider, only flattened one tire so I was able to get to work. Others lost more than one tire and were stranded.

Then 2 years ago I had the 72 Runner at Power Tour at U of I and a friend had his 68 300 ragtop. We were heading home at night fortunate for us a semi truck took out the deer that was on the highway. Greg got some blood and guts on his 300. After I seen him make that maneuver to get around the spinning deer I had plenty of time to change lanes.

In retrospect, Andrew deserves a "Plum Crazy Heart" award. I hope you'll get it fixed soon and without any major setbacks.

So far so good on the repairs. All parts needed are readily available and nothing crazy expensive except maybe PPG paint... but that's not unique to this classic.

Its in my shop and up on stands. I don't see any collateral damage underneath. The oil pan skid plate did its job and the headers/exhaust have some rubber marks but nothing worse.

Road hazard is zero deductible which is good. The adjuster will visit this week and I hope to have it in a shop next week. I have a little care package ready for him with vendor information on various parts used to help the process along. I have a shop in mind that I believe can do the metal work needed on the front fenders nicely. I will keep my rolled lip fenders... not interested in re-pops. Original or not I don't know... but they are good for tire clearance.

I "jumped the gun" and already ordered an exact replacement radiator from Mancini so it can go to the body shop on its own power. Flat trucks are nice when needed but...

In a few weeks, I hope to post a nicer picture of the front end!

Who is your insurance company? Unfortunately it takes a claim to see what the company is really like....anyone can take a customers money.

I insure the classic with Hagerty. The adjuster will visit tomorrow. Prompt and courteous. So far so good. Its straight forward situation and I don't really expect much difficulty.

Our family had a total loss for a car parked temporarily on the street hit by a moving car. That at fault car was insured, but we used hagerty for the claim and let hagerty go after the other car's insurance. Hagerty came out to the house and really did some due diligence locating parts to write a good estimate. We were impressed. In the end the stated value we had was less than estimate. So we got paid and bought the car back.

As an update, my insurance claim is settled agreeably and I just have to help the body shop round up the parts and get it taken care of. Hagerty was great. All parts I need are "in stock" so just blocking and tackling there. The body shop owner was a good sport... he had never heard of body suppliers like Mancini (radiator, fan, clutch) or Bouchillon (AC condenser) or Goodmark or... . He said if I helped round up the parts he would take care of the rest. Deal!

As an update, I stopped in the body shop this week. The lower radiator support is very nicely replaced and fenders neatly repaired. It should go in the paint booth this week. Hopefully be end next week I will be able to post an "after" picture!

Ouch repaired! Turk's Autobody did a fine job on her. The owner, Gary, went for a short ride afterwards... we blew the carbon out. Home and safe for now.
