And need help phasing it to my MSD crank trigger.
I'm running 34 degrees total timing. So do I bump to TDC on ATI Balancer and then put rotor on leading edge of #1 on the distributor or do I bump it to 34 degrees and put rotor on leading edge of #1.
thanks Sammy

set the damper at 34° and align the rotor with #1 or as mentioned the leading edge.

if running a start retard i wouldn't pull out more than 10°. i have done more in the past and had problems with the engine sneezing until someone educated me on it.

Line everything up so #1 is firing. So that means 34 (or whatever advance you want) BTDC and then have the pickup pointed at the magnet on the wheel and the rotor pointed to #1. You obviously need to be on the firing stroke also.

Once you do that the engine will fire right up. I drill a hole in the distributor cap so I can see the rotor position. Then once you have the engine running you can shine the timing light into the hole and see where the rotor is. If the rotor isn't perfectly aligned then you loosen the bolts on the back of the distributor housing and twist the housing to get it lined up properly.

The crank trigger brackets that I make have dimples every 2 degrees so you can shut the engine off and then move the pickup fairly accurately to where you need it for correct timing.

What are the symptoms if your distributor is out of phase?
