My 418 small block runs well

In my 67 Plymouth it gets 1.34 60 ft.

It only runs 100 mph in the 1/8. This thing should be going 105 easily.

Thinkin when we put this Milodon gear drive on it we may have degreed the cam wrong. Going 4 retarded in stead of 4 advanced...or vice versa...hell I can't remember which way we went with it.

Based on these symptoms, could that be my problem??

It has a crank trigger...set at 32-33 degrees timing (this is where it ran its fastest) but yet will kick the starter back when trying to start it cold. Already snapped one new light weight starter in half.

This car pulls bumper draggin wheelies but doesn't have any balls at the finish line.
New converter and new E85 for this motor. Converter a new one from Lenny @ Ultimate ( I love it).

Help and thanks

If you did install the cam retarted it will make the
engine lazy on the low end... I usually install my
cams advanced from 4* to 6*... on my 416 in my street
rod I installed it straight up at 105(its a 105 LSA
cam).. I didnt want to make any more torque to raise
the conv stall any higher.. its 5000 with 500 ft lbs
of torque and I made 535 torque

If you can't jet the carb. up enough(fatter) to slow the car down it is probally the fuel system. Or maybe it is to fat now I would try jetting it up two jet sizes and see what happens on the MPH If the car picks up all the way down the track your on the right track, if it slows down all the way down the track it is to fat now I switch to E 85 several years back and dyno tested two different carbs, two gas and one E85, the E85 carb was real sensitive to the jetting on the dyno, one jet size either way made a measureable difference, it like 91 in the front with a power valve and 101 in the rear That was at 4300 Ft. in Klamath, OR, it came with 93 and 103 I need to jet it up some more now that the motor is in the car, I put it back to 93/103 so far BTW, the E85 I had done the tuning with ended up testing to be winter mix E75, not E85 Good luck, let us know what you find

What trans, rear gear ratio, and tire size?

I think the 60' timers are a little off at Muncie, but not that far off. My car does about 100 in the 1/8 too, but I'm a full tenth slower than you in the 60'.

Edit: Also, what fuel pump, filter, and line size?

67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....

Another thing is, you might be a bit too much advanced
on the cam.. its pulling the wheels easy enough so
I doubt its retarded.. what kind of RPM do you launch
at and what does it rev strong to

So much for the "8.75 rears won't survive in B-Body race-cars" argument.....

I have had some no name converters that were over achievers in 60 ft and under achievers down track. When it was tightened it up with a good converter, slowed down the 60 ft and the car was quicker in the rest of the run. I'll bet loose 8" and lot of gear? I missed the fact that the converter came from Lenny. That changes my idea completely. In this case That area would be well taken care of.

Not enough info racebuddy. And yes, I saw all of your first post.

Its prolly your 8 3/4 bindinding at the top end from being bent.

You really need to give more of the incrementals, and other info. Fuel system?? 1/4 mile runs??? ETc. Right now its a blind stab to guess whats going on.

Thanks for responses. Some additional info:

cam is 600/600 Comp roller with 265/272 duration. 108 CL
Have run this cam in other motors, usually straight up on the timing chain.

i tried running with hood, without, with air breather, w/out, no difference. I did think it may have been lack of air but I tried all options on that.

It has a 4:88 gear with 29 tall Goodyears. Launch started at 3700 and is at 3300 now with sky high launches.

Converter is not shot, it is brand new out of the box.
W-2 race heads, some porting work. 2 inch header tubes,

it is difficult to even hear the motor rpm change when shifting. It sounds as if it is wound up the whole way down the track.

It is difficult to start when cold, kicks starter hard. after warm up, starts ok but not great.
the 32-33 timing is where it runs the best mph, but it does not pull hard like this stroker should. I have had 365's run faster mph.

Fuel system is 8 AN line going to regulator. 2 6AN going to carb. Has an Aeroquip fuel pump. pressure at 6.5 Has a NOS line at 6AN but haven't sprayed anything with this motor yet. It has a Holley black pump for it.

I can only footbrake the converter to about 3ooo rpm before it pushes thru the 4 wheel disc brakes. I do not think converter is loose at all.

The motor sounds as good as any I have heard but there is no pulling power down track.

It does 4.38 in 330 and 6.73 best in 1/8.
1/4 mile time...haven't stretched it there yet really.

There is no way I am out of gear by the 1/8 mile.

Victor Jr. intake, 850 E 85 carb, new

Worth trying a different coil?? Have a good one but maybe the best available would help
