Should the boot use a series of snaps To attach to the convertible trim on a 70 / 71 Barracuda? Or should it clip on to the trim and just snap on to the interior panels?

They use plastic clips to attach to the SS there are a couple of snaps at the ends that attach to the rear interior panels. I have had cars with the snaps all the way around I think those must have been added by the owners after the fact.

Agreed, and snaps if you have them were added by previous owner factory never had them.

Further more, original plastic clips were reinforced with a spring steel spine, reproductions are all plastic and dont stay clipped on very well at all (especially when warmed buy the sun etc. and softening). Badly needed (correct) restoration part.

Very interesting. Good to know Guys. I've seen so many with the molding drilled for snaps that I was beginning to wonder. The owner of a car that I'm looking at now swears that is factory correct.

I wondered why the repro plastic ones work so poorly..Mine seem to do fine on the straight sections.but in the corners where the tonneau gets tight, they are hard to clip and dont wanna stay..Thanks Scott

Snaps or clips, either way, it's a pain in the ass.

I have about 25 of the plastic clips with the steel spring from when they were reproduced in the 1980s, but can't find a boot to put them in. I'm still using the boot cover my car originally came with and it's a pain to install. It has 4 or 5 of the broken plastic/ spring type clips but I haven't replaced them yet.

If you wish to give up one of the really nice ones I'll look into getting proper reproductions made

Bought a boot for a car last summer and could hardly get it on. Had to let it sit in the sun for a while and still thought I was going to rip it.
Just bought one for another car couple weeks ago and it went on really easy.

Would be awesome to have the original style clips.

Reproductions would be awesome. I agree that the boots are hard to keep clipped on at the rounded corners !

Here's a few pics of an original clip I removed from my 43 year old boot. It's a little bent/compressed and you can see where the stitches made holes but still usable. Sitting with it is a reproduction clip I bought many years ago. It is very close in size, etc. to the original but has some slight differences. Original on right.

Last one. It would be great to try and get these reproduced again. Original on right.

Just to revive this thread. Has anyone found a reproduction boot for the e-body that fits great? I tried one a short time ago and sent it back. Just couldn't get it to stay snapped. I'm willing to loan an original clip as well as a reproduction shown above to get some reproduced. Has anyone used a Legendary boot? Does it come with the original style clip instead of the all plastic ones?

What worked for me was to take my old boot (if you have one) and the car to the upholstery guy and have him make one to fit the car. I used repop all plastic clips. They came direct from the engineer who designed them and work really well. This was all about 15 years ago.

Hi Scott,

Just wondering if you have had any luck tracking down a part to copy from and if you have moved forward in to bringing these back to life please.

Thanks,
Kenny.
