Hi all - I know there have been tests done, but I'm looking for a low profile intake to bolt onto a 400 engine with stock heads (some porting). I don't want to mess with the kickdown or throttle cable linkage, and not looking to make max power, just make a quick bolt on swap from the factory boat anchor. Any upgrade from stock would be nice. I know the performer intake is out there, and if I recall, there is not much gain over stock other then the weight loss.
The engine also sports a Crane powermax hydraulic ft cam 224/234 @.050, .467/.494 lift, 114 lsa, 750 edelbrock carb and headers, in a 71 D200 truck.
Any info is appreciated. thanks!

Tony the DP4B edelbrock is a good intake. In the testing a few years ago it was not far behind the rpm and it is low profile and will pass for stock painted and properly massaged.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Here's the first part of the article. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_0712_mopar_intake_manifold_comparo/viewall.htmlEdelbrock DP4B seems to be a winner, and it is short. The Torker 383 isn't too much taller, and may work quite well with your cam choice. That's why I suggested it. Also you can get one cheap. I got mine for less than $100, I think it was $50.00. Here's the second part, switching to better heads....http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_0801_mopar_intake_manifolds/viewall.html Now you can make your own decision in your own time. R.

I don't think you have many choices for a new low profile B intake. The Edelbrock Performer might be the only one currently available.
The performer is the same as the DP4B only spun 180 degrees , it should give the least issues with the TV linkage.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have spotted a couple 383 SD intake at upwards of 400 bucks, and not much else out there in terms of intakes that would fit my bill. I think the Performer will do just fine for what I need, plus they are easy to come by. Thanks again, guys.

Its up to you but if it's for the street I would stay dual plane. I put a Torker on mine. It killed all the bottom end. Runs good up in the R's where I usually don't drive though.
Yup, I went from a torker to an Eddy RPM and it made all the difference on my 450 stroker. Although the rpm was taller than the torker.

Crazy what they want for used low deck SD intakes ...Holley are you listening? With the onslaught of low deck big cube strokers, there's obviously a market. With that said...the DP4B will fit the bill...I had one on a 470" for a while, worked good. The RPM that replaced it really woke up the midrange though. I sold the DP4B for $150...it sold in an hour the 1st time I tried.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what the tallest intake would be for a low deck engine in a 68 Charger with a stock hood?
A Perform RPM should fit with a drop base air cleaner. This is what I am using on my 383 and it fit under the stock hood of my 69 Road Runner.
Thanks! Looks mighty good there too!
