Ever since I bought my '69 Hemi Road Runner a few years ago it's had surface rust in the trunk and has been kind of ugly there. The car is an absolutely rust free original California car and the trunk floor is the only thing that needed paint work. Well I finally took out the mat and freshened her up!

Thanks,
Eric

Awesome job!

Would you mind sharing what steps you took and products used? I have a trunk floor that looks pretty well the same as yours did.

Thanks,

Mike.

I agree; looks great. I would also like to know how this was done as my trunk floor is in the same condition.

It is a process that takes about 3 days.
First you need to grind and wire wheel all of the surface rust off. Sand blast if possible.
Then you spray a rust encapsulator on it.
If it is pitted you need to fill the pits with glazing filler.
Sand down the filler to a smooth finish, the grooves will be done by hand. You may need to repeat this step several times depending on how pitted your floor is.
Once you like the finish of the floor you then spray a heavy build self leveling epoxy primer on it.
Once that dries you check it for any imperfections.
Then topcoat with color.
Clean all the original plugs and insert them once the paint it dry.
It's beautiful again!
(Hint... the trunk doesn't seal to the passenger compartment very well and dust and paint can get in there if you don't mask off the far back of the trunk and put plastic down in the interior just to be safe)

Thanks,
Eric

Looks great!

What kind of encapsulator did you use on the rust?
