nothing wrong with that, i loved racing my slant six dart, 18 seconds of pure fun---and like you said, the faster guys hate waiting on the line. most of the guys i raced with had to wait approx 4 seconds, one guy in our class had to wait almost 8 seconds before his light came down.

I am looking forward to it, cause I can drive to and from the track, and not use loads of fuel.
I raced in a bone stock pinto once, and took a class win for the night....the other guys ALL broke out!

Bracket racing is all about consistancy, so even if you takes you RELIABLE 20 seconds EVERYTIME then go for it!

I agree!
My thinking is that not only should I get great consistancy, but low to no breakage compared to a higher horsepower setup.
My Bro-in law wants to go nuts with the project and build a tube frame truck (I say not yet!)...he thinks that 2800# isnt out of the question....I want to be able to drive and enjoy it too, even if it is just to cruise night and such.
O.G.

BTW...496 is sold, and gone...don't feel regret.....yet

My thoughts on a slant six---my reciepe for a dependable bracket motor

Stock 225 with a little higher compression (close to zero deck if possible.

Long rods would be nice, but not neccesary

4 barrel intake with 600 cfm double pumper

long tube header to fit the trucks

Camshaft that isnt to much bigger than stock (still need tourqe to get that thing moving)

28-30" tall tires

3.91-4.10 gearing

auto trans with manual valvebody or 3.09 first gear 4-speed (found in mid seventies A & F bodies--convert to long shaft for truck use)

I figure that should make it a fun package that is super dependable and runs great---should put it in the 16 sec range im thinking, but im just guessing too.

Here's my combo...
68 model 225 block
198 rods, 225 crank, 2.2 forged turbo pistons aprox .045 overbore
erson 270 cam (.465 lift, 220 @ .050)
mildly ported/big valve head
late clifford intake, with the bosses for fuel injectors (future efi)....500cfm edelbrock carb for now.
shorty homebuilt headers, designed for a future turbo.
904 auto,2500 stall (is actually a 3000)
8.75 rear. sure grip and 4.10 gears. rear 235/60 15 rear tires on centerline 7 in rims. front 15x5.5 centerlines with 165/15's
all in a 83 short wide, bare bones no options truck...does have power brakes, now manual steering (again)
I will be finding out how it does next spring, in Tulsa!

I didn't know there are streets big/long enough where you are moving to support a cruise night...

Gee, ya would think that in Tulsa they would have a cruise night!
Locust Grove does have a local car club, and I was told to feel free to join in.

Maybe some slight work on the truck this weekend. The new plugs definetly cleaned the running of it up, need to change the oil and go out for another test without the mrs so i can hammer it. But time is short, 3 weeks untill we get married and we should be within a couple of weeks ready to close on a house so i need to start packing like yesterday. Of course updates to follow........
