The boy is looking at taking the duel wheels off the back of his truck and putting on one large wide tire on the dodge diesel truck. Is there an off the shelf rim manufacture that makes such an animal and how wide can we go with a rear tire?

Cheers Don.

You need to give a little more info. As far as off the shelf, anything wider than 12", no. As far as tires, Mickey Thompson makes some pretty wide ones but none are E-rated. So what is he planning to do with said truck?

Ok the boys truck is more of a trar.... truck/car that he drives to school and around. There is large stacks in the truck box so the box is just used for little light loads.

She is a first gen cummins diesel stick. When I have some time I will pull the rear wheels off and measure up what room there is and what offset is needed.

Tires I know are quite easy and M/T will be the tire of choice. Just wondering if there has been anyone on here that may have looked at doing this to an 8 bolt dodge diesel. I would expect having the two rims it would need to be 14"s plus anyways.

Cheers Don.

you can use super single wheels and tires off a tractor trailer with bolt on rim adaptors

Yep. Given you have the Big Wheel adapters. Seen pics of a 91-93 running them

The rims in the pic are 19" wide and that 9 1/4 is dimensionally the same backing plate to backing plate as my dana 80. The outside dimension of the tire is the same too on my dually. This sounds like an incredibly expensive experiment to a non problem.

Tell you what, just send me the money and get him used to driving the truck with the duals. We'll both be happier!

When Talking to DIESEL Guys First gen is refered tobas the Engine Not truck. When talking Gas trucks First gen is referee to as the Ram.
I think the term First or sececond gen is Dumb and reminds me of craperos and imports

Wow. I had no idea. What's the difference in the '93 diesel and '94 diesel engines?

A 93 will have a VE injection pump and a 94 will have a P7100 injection pump, then a 98.5 will have a VP44 injection pump AND 24 valves.

You can think it's dumb if you want but the terms are there to differentiate the various incarnations, and there are distinct differences. Yes, even the wheels. Take a look over at dieseltruckresource.com and you'll see how they are split up.

The terms will always be present. Nothing I can do about it. I just never relized it was so difficult to say 92 250 with a cummins etc lol. This topic is brought up about once a week now on facebook. Those that go buy the 81-93 Ram being being first gen are technically incorrect. Ive owned/own3 1980 truck that they said Dodge Ram on the tailgate and had the white leaping ram on the fender.Plus some if not all 1980 brochures say Ram on them. Either way its a term those like me that could care less about must deal with.
Sorry for veering off topic

You tell'em Harry! They are still D series pickups. Wonder what confusion will happen when Ram isn't a stand alone brand?

Because then you get those funky years where some have a 12v, and some have a 24v. or where some have a 5.9 and some have a 6.7
