Here's a question, I have a 1971 360 block with an Eagle 408 stroker kit installed. I also have a set of Edelbrock cylinder heads (63cc) pushing compression to about 10.2 to 1. Finally a 480 lift cam. Which intake and carb cfm is the best? Is the cam big enough? It's a street motor so a dual plane will be used but what brand and model? Thanks

going to be real tough to beat an RPM-AirGap and a 750 holley on that combo. A-body with decent gears, I'd try a double pumper. B-Body or anything taller than 3.73's, a vacuum secondary might work better.

Another vote for the Air Gap. And 750cfm is probably a good choice, but being a street car, the new Street Demon might be a better carb choice.
Carb preferences for the street has been discussed here several times lately.

Air Gap it is!!, I forgot to mention this is going into my 73 Barracuda with 3.73 gears and a column shift 727. Also I'm gonna go with the edelbrock 750cfm electic choke carb and a 500+ lift cam. I will save the .480 lift for something down the road. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

There are a lot of posts on here about this subject. As you can see from the respondents on the thread below, the Edelbrocks have more bad reviews than good. That is typical. For the same money, you can get a carb that has overall good reviews. The Street Demon. With all the negative reviews people here and on other forums give the Edelbrocks, I am very surprised that guys still buy them instead of the much better designed and calibrated Demon. All you have to do is to read the reviews. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=0#Post8271783

I agree about staying away from the Eddy 750. There's a reason they're cheap. Sure, you'll find those that make them work just fine. But there are too many horror stories (mine among them) to ignore. Stick with a Holley based 750 / 770 and you're practically assured to be just fine.

I'm going with the demon carb but my engine guy is telling me to go with the performer intake for more low end power. It's rated from idle -5500rpm. The airgap RPM is rated from 1500-6500rpm. He's been building engines forever and says this is the way to go cause I won't run it over 5500 anyway. Any input?

sounds good but that cam is a little too small, like some one else said just up the lift a little with 1.6 rockers.

The only place the performer is going to out-perform the Air-Gap is ON idle. How much fun will you be having in the car "on idle"??? Its old technology, the Air-Gap is a newer design that does a great job of landing in the middle of dual plane fuel distribution and single plane velocity. Theres literally no way you'll be dissapointed with it. Whereas the performer will leave you forever short-shifting a small block that wants to rev. Bottom line: On anything other than a dead-stock rebuild, your machinist is wrong.
