Hmmmmm, I never knew he was mobbed up. He must have been good at it since he passed of natural causes.

Godspeed Billy.

Dewey Cook drove Stepp's 68 as a B/MP for a while. He loves to tell the stories of his cross county travels with Billy. They were always interesting.

My uncle Clayton worked as a crewman for Mr Stepp through most of the 70's and several NC drivers drove for him ( Herb McCandless & Melvin Yow and Ronnie Sox).

RIP, Billy! I talked with Bob Malcom at length about Billy at Mopars at the Strip this year, apparently he was a neighbor of Billy's. He had some interesting things to say about him! Bob asked me if I knew whatever happened to his 68 Barracuda, and I told him he was sitting right next to it! My boss owns his 68 Barracuda SS/AA. Here it is in it's present configuration.

if it's a documented Billy car why is it not restored with the Billy paint? I would think it would be much more valuble and interesting in that form.

The paint on the car now is in excellent shape, though I have tried to persuade my boss to paint it he will not. It was last raced in Canada in it's current configuration and ran just under 9 seconds flat, so it is a typical well-used SS/AA and has been "updated" through the years. We are currently restoring an original Hemi Dart which was hacked to death, so one at a time!

Thank you for your e-mail. I am planning on creating a website in honor of my father and I will post information on this site if anyone is interested. I would be honored if anyone has some stories I could post after verification.

Happy Holidays to everyone and God Bless!

~Nina Stepp

Would you be interested in a website featuring my father "Billy the Kid" Stepp and his racing legacy?

Nina I think that would be a nice thing to do for your dad.

Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Nina:

I think that would be a great idea. As you have noticed on this site, there are a lot of old timers with many great stories.

Have a good Christmas and Happy New Year.
