There is a guy fairly close to me that is selling the drivetrain out of a 1989 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 that had a diesel engine in it. The guy bought it just for the engine and doesn't know much about the rest of the drivetrain, he said in his email the rear axle is a dana 60 and thinks the front is too, but he's not sure and doesn't know the gear ratio. Is there a chance this truck could have a Dana 60 front axle or a NP205 t-case? Do any of you guys know what the drivetrain could be based on the limited info I have? As I get more info I will post it. Thanks!

should be a Dana 60 front. Dana 70 rear I believe.

NP205 should also be the transfer case

That would be cool if it were. I was looking for a 4.10 Dana 60 rear to replace the one in my 93, but if I could score a Dana 60 front and a 205 t-case, I will probably buy the whole drivetrain.

Wouldn't it also have basically a heavy duty 727 still? With a new name?

You didn't say what tranny ( 5 speed or 727) but beware the possibility of a dana 61 front and the possibility of 3.07 gears.

I still haven't heard back from the guy about what trans it had. Would the 3.07 gears be in the auto or the 5-speed?

3.07 for the auto and they are called a dana 61 and a dana 71 both manual and auto used the 205--i think the manual 205 only fits on the getrag-and the auto 205 will fit on any dodge automatic...and if it is a manual it will be a 3.54 gear---there were a few one ton 4.10 gear ratios put out there and there also were some single wheel one tons....you need to learn some more about the deal...

The guy just sent me a text saying the truck had an auto trans, so I guess that means the axles are probably the 3.07s. Would the t-case work on a 93 NV4500 5-speed?

If it has the 3.07 then that is the only ratio that will fit in the housing on the rear. T-case would need a different input shaft and the case would need to be machined to accept the larger input bearing.
(Unless the 4500 was behind a gaser then it would bolt on with out changing anything)
You would have to clearance the tail on the transmission to clear the shift linkage.

Thanks for the info. My NV4500 in my 93 is on a 5.9L gas v8 magnum. I already told the guy he probably doesn't have anything I can use, but maybe I should ask him what he wants for the t-case.

If it wasn't so far away I would love to have that complete Dana 71 to put in my 92 CTD 4x2 w/A618 to make a hiway cruiser. Been thinking' of cuttin' about 18" out of the chassis and puttin' a 88 Ramcharger body on it.
