Hi guys, linkage keeps jamming when shifting from 1st to 2nd, but only when driving it. I can shift it all day long just fine without engine running.
I looked at the linkage thinking maybe it's worn and flopping, but it really doesn't look that bad.
Is this just a symptom of misadjusted linkage?
Thanks for any info!

On the steering column under the hood are one or two screws down by the linkage that you loosen and then twist the collar to tighten the shift lever assembly up. Some times that helps.

With so many moving parts, they don't have to be very worn to give problems. As suggested, however, adjust before replacing. It works good in a stationary position because there's no load on the moving parts. I had a similar issue on a floor shifter but it was badly worn; Worked good until you drove it LOL. No power shifting THAT Hurst! Guess that's why they called that one (stock in a 68 Road Runner(?)) the "mystery shifter"

All it takes is some "slop" and there ya go. Gotta look it over, maybe while someone is moving through the pattern, and see where there's interference or lost motion...like worn bushings or clips, bent rod(s), etc.
Set up properly, one can basically powershift them.
