Which heads are popular these days? and what are guys spending for ready to bolt on heads?
Are Edelbrock doing a good job?
I'm considering a set for a peppy 440.

The Eddies are a good starting point for street engines. They are bolt on pieces and do the job. Best of all, they're made in USA.

I have no experience with the other brands and will leave that up to others.

I have them on a 470" low deck. Disassembled, checked them over, installed springs to match my cam and installed them. Been together a few years now with zero issues. Best part as stated...MADE IN USA!!!

I run a set of Ed heads on a 496 with a fast mechanical flat tappet cam. About 14k miles and not babied. They have been trouble free. With Comp cast alloy steel rockers and 3/8" pushrods they hold lash very well.

I had them prepped and pocket ported first by Muscle Motors. Prep involved touch up of the valve job, check/correct guide clearance, 10 degree locks and a very light mill cut on the deck face. Some folks have decent luck with OOB heads but I think the prep is cheap insurance.

I bought my Stealth heads from 440-source about 4 years ago now. I installed 10* locks & retainers, along with the springs that came with my cam. Other than that, out of the box and onto the motor. Years later; no issues whatsoever. I like the stock look, and I'd buy another pair in a heartbeat.

Use any head you want, but again, there is no such thing as a bolt on head. The last set of Edelbrock RPM heads we opened had metal shavings underneath the valves inside the port pocket from the machining of the hardened valve seats. At the very least, take 'em apart, inspect them, clean them and then reassemble.

They worked great. I've heard some complaints about weak springs but I use a relatively mild cam and ran them straight out of the box. The engine rarely saw the high of 6000 rpm because the cam was done by that time.

I could feel a difference in the performance but never bothered to dyno the car with them.

I had out of the box Eddy RPM's on my 440 with a conservative hyd roller cam & it made 534 hp. Another 440 with unported 906's & hyd purple shaft made 438 hp.

How much HP do you want the peppy 440 motor to make? I've seen a gain of over 150 HP gain on the same pump gas short block by trying three different sets of heads I did go from 440 port size to M.W. size ported heads also, the heads, carb. intake and exhaust dictate the amount of power the motor will make IHTHs

eddy heads are nice. but make sure you get them checked out. they are known for tight guides and questionable valve jobs right out of the box.

I just dynoed tested a small 440 stroker,464 C.I., 3.90 stroke with a 4.350 bore, with a set of Eddy RPM on it with a relative small cam. Comp Cams XE275HL with a Eddy Perormer RPM intake, 850 Holley doule pumper on Oregon 91 octane pump swill, it made 508 HP at 5800 RPM and 520 Ft Lbs torque at around 4000 RPM. That was on a calibrated Studka dyno in Madras OR at 2600 ft elevation earlier this summer. I have had stock stroke motors with bigger cams and intakes(singe plane team G) make more HP than that with a set of ported iron 906 heads with 2.14 intake valves and 1.81 exhaust valves You can to with the right parts The Edddy RPM flow more air than the 440 Source Stealth heads do so more power is available with them A set of Indy M.W. port size EZ or a set of thier SR M.W. port size will make more power than the Eddy RPM with the same short block, been there done that Lots of choices IHThs

Use on 512 stroker. You might order bare or be prepared to change out valve springs. I ordered for hydraulic roller and while apart for inspection decided to install bee hive valve springs. Except for a recently collapsed lifter all is well,,,,and replacing my iron heads resolved a horrific plug fouling issue I was experiencing.

Any aftermarket head should be checked before install. I have Victors and yes they were made in the U.S.
