I am currently working on a 70 Challenger.
(just a roller at this point.)
I have a donor car that I will use for most of the parts.
The roller has no glass, and the donor has a good windshield and back glass.
I've never removed/installed glass before.
Would the glass install companies be willing/able to remove from one car and install on the other or do I have to do it myself?

Thanks!

Because I like it that way.

Most glass installers don't even like installing "old" glass, nevermind removing it, and re-installing it...Do yourself a favor and put NEW glass in the car, no matter how "clear" you think it is, nothing's better than a fresh windshield, or any glass for that matter

Yeah- that was another option I was considering.

Thanks!

I had mine R&I'd at a resto shop. Since they are glued in like new cars it is not easy and high chance of breakage. The windsield broke on removal and the backlight did not. I now wish the backlight had broken as well... it has a few scratches and isn't as nice as it could be.

I bought all new glass for my 70 challenger vert from AMD and it fit perfectly.
Installed it myself, not that difficult.

Did you use the butyl tape method or urethane adhesive.....? I need to do same

I have posted a picture of this tool many times here because it works very well and takes very little skill to use, even by yourself.

It cost about 29 bucks from any auto parts store, E bay, Amazon etc. It uses specially braided brass wire to cut right through the sealant with a sawing action. The brass won't hurt the glass and bends very easy around the glass. This stuff is brass wire braided and not piano or guitar strings. You can buy just the wire separately, but the T handles are very handy as is the tool to push the wire through the sealant to get started. It's made just right as to not crack the glass getting it in to start. Worth 29 bucks!

I have removed front and back glass out of 3 challengers and have never come close to breaking any glass. I have used this tool by myself, it is very possible to do it by yourself.

I also used this tool recently to remove the glass out of a F-450, it works equally as well cutting out glass in urethane sealant.

Another thing I found out, is they only have tinted glass for sale, if you want clear than you have to reuse your old glass.

Not sure what AMD sells, although I read on here that the glass is not as good as OEM glass, don't know if that is true?

Lastly, I removed the glass and had a pro come to the house and urethane my old glass in with urethane and primer. He didn't have any complaint or problem reinstalling my OEM glass.

I think the biggest reason I couldn't do it myself after watching him do it, is because he had a electric calking gun and was very good with it and laid down a real nice bead of urethane that would be real hard to do with a reg manual calking gun. He said my car would be stronger in the event of a accident than it would be with original sealant.

He also installed all my windshield and rear window trim. Made sure it all fit before the glass set, turned out better than stock.

You're stuck using windshield glass from the glass guy or ECS's windshield glass, but for some reason, the rest of the reproduction glass from everyone does not fit the doors or backlights as well as OEM glass (my experience is with Cuda glass -- full disclosure here....)

I for one would rather have scratched OEM door and back light glass than poorly fitting scratch free glass -- but that's just me. I have seen the "excellent fitting" glass by whoever -- and it does not fit worth a darn; seen that movie too many times. I would save your money and use the best scratch free OEM glass you have.

Best of luck.

Mark

I used the urethane adhesive. Layed the glass on for fit and installed shims on the bottom to keep it centered. Then layed a thick layer of urethane and set the window in.

The AMD glass fit perfectly for the front windshield and front and rear side glass. I have a vert so no back glass. The glass fit great and I had no issues.
