Do you coat the compression gaskets that go under the EPR suction fitting and the discharge tube muffler assembly (these are the fittings that bolt on the front and back of the RV2 compressor) before bolting them on the compressor and if so with what? the one on my old compressor were a steel shim type and the gaskets that came with my rebuilt compressor are a fiber type...

also on the EPR fitting there is a spring under the gasket and on the discharge tube one there is an O-ring?

Thanks in advance. hoping to get my AC reconnected and running again after a few years of being apart.

Steel compression gaskets go on dry. Lube the o-ring with some refrigerant oil. Depending on what type of refrigerant you use, will dictate the oil.

Mineral based oil for R-12, and the PAG oil for the R-134A if that's what you are using.

Pressure test when you are all done at least 150PSIG. The compressor gaskets can be leak-prone at suction and discharge connection points. Then evacuate to at least 1,000 micron level before charging.

does the discharge muffler assembly bolt to the compressor with just an o-ring to seal? That is what I recall, but didn't take picture or a note. The suction fitting to the compressor had the steel shim gasket. Can that be reused? The rebuilt compressor came with 2 fiber gaskets... that confused me based on my memory. They are poor fits (the bolts holes are off by a bit).

I got my all steel compression gaskets from an older NAPA store here in NC. Recall no o-ring on the discharge side of the compressor.

Use new steel shim in back. Obtain some seal that is specifically designed to seal pressure barriers. I got some special stuff from a local AC guy but cannot remember the actual name. Make sure you spend the time on that suction seal. Mine leaked down with R12. expensive mistake.

Discharge uses an o-ring only.

I pressured the system to 125 psi and made sure it held. I used Joy dish soap and water mixture to check for leaks. A/C guy advised 'Joy' because it makes the best bubbles. Left if for 5 of 6 days to make sure.

Also, Make sure your EPR valve (inside the suction hole) is functional. Both my AC cars needed to have it replaced (Evaporative Pressure Regulator). I have heard the system can work without it. From what I understand its function is to keep the evaporator from freezing up. All I know is that with a non working example in my RV2 pump, my A/C would not get cold.
