I have a numbers matching car and want to keep it that way. Maybe Carter was the original manufacturer. If its not available at dealer then I will look for NOS>

First off, your car will still be "numbers matching" whether you have a 100% correct OE fuel pump or a replacement fuel pump as the numbers refered to are the VIN #'s stamped in the engine block that correspond with your vehicles VIN data plate and body stampings. -

Carter was the OE to Chrysler. Carter still make correct "replacements" that are availabe from most reputable auto parts stores.

If you must have a "correct OE Dated and part numbered" fuel pump then NOS is the only option.

I doubt Your local dealer will not have a 100% correct OE fuel pump - they will have what ever their supplier provides that fits and functions. (if they even want to hassle with something for a 35+ year old vehicle)

I agree.

dvette71, you'll need to learn how to read the date codes on a fuel pump to get the right dates.

The dealer pump will be a change up. It will likely Not even resemble the original.

I work at a dealer and it is unusual for me to work on car that is older than 5 years. Let alone 40 years.

Even when 80's stuff comes in, we usually get the parts from a jobber store.

That's a nice looking dart. If I were you I would want a quality replacement part (like a carter) and not be concerned about anything else.
If it's a car that is driven, it's value will not be affected AT ALL by the brand of fuel pump you use.

Get a Carter Mopar replacement for a Carb 360 preferably with the 87 specs which were higher psi due to a heat problem when running the q jet carb. They push out near 6.5-7psi work better the stock 340 pump

Good point. The rubber diaphram in there would be 30 years old. I have some NOS upper shock bushing that are totally cracked up. But I do have some others that are not. Guess it's just how lucky you are.
