Guys I'm looking for a OD assembly for a hyd 518..
any one know where they can be found... looks like
I messed up on the assembly before
EDIT
Just for Slippery440(so he wont have this post dumped)
this is RACE stuff.. the power has to go through
the OD unit weather its turned on or not)... he
has the tendency to call the mods if HE thinks its
not a related topic

PATC used to sell complete OD units, but I don't know if they were for the hydraulic or the electronic version of the trans. What is wrong with yours?

I failed to put the torrington bearing in and it ate
the back end up and I think its gonna be cheaper
to get the whole OD assembly than replace the parts..
I was gonna call them today but I figured I'd call
a few other places(and did) but Cope wasnt open and
SMR didnt have anything

Just so you know, the OD section is the same , electronic or not. The differences are, the early were 22* planet pinion angles which created excessive thrust, which loaded the bearings and planet, and the later units which they went to 15* on the planet, sungear and ring gear, less thrust load. There are differences in the number of clutches in the OD direct, which for a gas engine should be 8, or for a diesel or V10, should be 10. You can play around with the number of OD brake clutches by changing the pressure plates.

It's all common stuff, any trans parts house will have it.

transtar http://www.transtar1.com/hardparts.asp
(nationwide distribution) sells cases (won't be as cheap as a wrecking yard) and you can get any other parts shipped from bulkpart.com

I know my trans guy uses the OD from a 618 in his builds. He has one behind a Hemi in his 64 wagon, push buttons and all.

how did he adapt the od unit to the pb. case ? or is this a later transmission with the "imperial services" modification ?

Mike I found the guy on Ebay we bought that old A500 unit off of. He has a 2wd assembly listed for $149 plus $20 to ship, but it's a 95 and newer.

I emailed him to see if he had the parts to build a pre-95 trans.

But either way looks like we can get what we need for less then $!00

It's a 518 with the JVX (sp?) adapter and he made his own set-up for the typewriter shifter. Not sure how he did it but he's a pretty sharp guy.
