Hey Guys,
I ordered a complete gasket and seal kit for the front of my 318 and it came with this 1/4" thick round felt pad(about the size of the crankshaft). It's like a small donut. Dont know where it's suppose to go.
I think after you put on the timing cover, it goes on the inside of the harmonic balancer?
Anyone know for sure?
thx
Kevin

That felt thing may be a left over from the '50s, I don't know why but I have a couple saved in my "might need this some day" drawer. I think it was used when the front seal was just a flat piece of rubber in the ring, no lip or spring.

If you have the metal "slinger" and a lip seal (lip toward the oily stuff) you will be fine leaving the felt in the drawer.

Actually, you would most likely be fine with out the slinger ... but if you have one, use it.

It takes gasoline to interest me.
