Actually once I drove my Duster to a high dollar No-Box race. I was the only one on the property that had done so, my little car was surrounded by huge rigs and trailers and RV's. And I made it to the semi-finals so I was pretty stoked, and drove it home after most of the rigs had left.
Yep, always fun to drive to the track, put a hurtin' on full-on race cars and drive home!

I have always had the luxury of living close to the track and being able to simply drive it into the track to race - then drive home. Quite a few people comment on it, but obviously don't know I live THAT close to the track. If I broke it - I could walk home and get the truck and trailer to get it home. Of course I've driven it to Vegas, Tucson, San Diego and even Topeka KS to race it too! I just slow it down to reduce the chance of breaking it that far from home. I did use an open trailer to tow it to Sacramento to race it though…. I had it set on "kill" and knew there was a good chance I might too! LOL

The biggest problem with driving to the track is that you have nothing to reserve your spot. I hate leaving my stuff in a little pile but that's what happens lol. I usually park at one of the light posts on the edge of the pits so it's never a problem.
That's also one of the odd things about drag week. Once you leave the home track you have 200 cars racing that run from 6s to 15s.........and no tow rigs in the pits.

That's Michael Beard. He is a very bad man with a footbrake car, no matter how he gets it to the track. I drove my Duster as far as Bristol to race. Drove to Beech Bend for the $10K Thanksgiving race. Ran S/Pro and No E. Had a ball. 12 second (1/8th mile) car in the land of 4 second swing sets.

I quit driving to the track YEARS ago when I blew a axle... after that weekend I have ALWAYS had a trailer weather it was a open or enclosed.. for about 4 years I ran with a open but slept in the truck but then went to enclosed and slept on a cot in it.. then built a LQ trailer... every enclosed has had a awning to park the car under if I had to sleep in the rear area.. didnt like smelling fuel all night

LOL, yup. Luckily I could squeeze in almost anywhere but still...
Mr. P, I hear ya. We have a nice enclosed now with lots of comforts and I love it. But I do remember how it was...

I used to drive to the track in my Dakota but driving through Albuquerque at 12:00am was the scariest thing I've ever done...99% of the people are drunk...It was insane. So I bought an open trailer to tow behind my Ram 2500 figuring the added sheet metal was a good thing. Couple years ago a Mustang racing another Mustang ran a red light and took out the passenger side of the Ram and drove off. Hit hard enough to hurt my wife's neck, had we been in the little Dakota it would have bad.
