Well the time has come to add wheelie bars to the car as a few weeks back this thing with the new aluminum 572 stood up pretty good when I least expected it, it was pulling the wheels up prior that day a foot and a half and carrying it out about 30 feet till this pass around 4:30 in the afternoon at pretty much the hottest point in the day and typically a greasy track by then with all the cars going down it all day. The car was much higher just before this picture was taken as I am going by the 60' timer here. I guess my main concern is length as I do not want them 12" beyond the body just even with the wing so the car still fits in the trailer with the golf cart turned sideways, LOL Any E-body guys running bars this length and is it working or too short? Thoughts from experienced appreciated?

TIA, Keith

Unlike your car, my Cuda does not/ has not needed them ever...But I have a set on it. I went with the S&W bars, and really like them. Mine were the 48" ones...They seem the perfect length, but as stated, mine with only a 1.47 sixty foot does not really need them...I would post pics, but my work computer will not let me.

Heck my Duster is a 1.36 sixty foot and barley lifts the wheels...

Yes I think 48" is about it, hope to take it to a shop within the next week to be ready for the 4th! I never wanted to put them on the car but need it for safety now. My rear tires clicked off the 60' beam with a 1.369, usually it is 1.27. Here is the slip from that pass. Was thinking of killing it with the timing at the hit or stop but want to still be able to race the car all out and not band-aid it.

I really think 48 would look better but my chassis guy insisted on 60 inch long different car in signature those are 88?

Longer bars give you more leverage. On a high power car you are much better off with the long bar. That way they have more leverage and you can tune with them not just have them as a safety device. I think Keith is looking more for a safety device than a tuning aid. So the shorter bar will likely do what he is after. Suffering from weight bias and ladder bars

Thanks 7 second, man that thing hauls BTW!
Al is right ladder bars and pretty darn close to 50/50 now as last time I scaled it we were 51 front / 49 rear with the heavy motor. If it dead hooks look out but with my normal launch in the 1st dozen passes were all within 1-2 thousand of each other 60' which the car is pretty much always done.
This is about the 5th pass on the new motor with NO track prep at Sacramento, I want to set the bars up to catch anything about 4" higher than this.

Awesome car! looks like about 50", or about 12" beyond the bumper. FWIW I always wanted to paint my Challenger that color but then would have 2 lime light cars as my '72 RR is the same color.

A good friend of mine had these built by another good friend of mine about 4 years ago and he only ran them once, whats more is they pretty much bolt right up to my shock mounts so should be a pretty easy install. They have been powder coated and are 58" so they will be about 8" past my chute but the price is cheaper than a weld up kit from summit so we are going to give them a try...........

The problem with those bars are with the X bracing on the lower bars will not allow you to put a floor jack under the rearend without removing the bars.Everybody I know has the bracing between the top bars.

The bracing belongs on the bottom bars. Reason being you adjust the height with the top bars and they stay pinned. Unless you are only using them for looks or purely for safety they belong on the bottom.

BS! Go look at some wheelie bars, there are all braced on the top bar.
Look at the pic of the green car above! You think you know it all but you don't.Here is a discription of the Jegs weld up kit.

Jegster Tubular 4130 Chrome Moly Wheelie Bars

•62'' total length bars (including brackets and wheels). These bars include a .75'' x .058'' 4130 upper X-member to eliminate axle for easier jack clearance.
•1.125'' x .058'' 4130 tubular chrome moly steel construction for greater strength, lighter weight.
•Semi-finished bars (one end only of four main members are welded) allowing bars to be built shorter if desired.
•4'' diameter wheels.

Not BS..Perhaps you need to head to the track and take a look at the faster cars out there. Not the guys who have bars on them for looks or purely safety..

Maybe you need to look at the places that actually build racecars. Perhaps you will be enlightened

Exactly. People with fast cars don't usually buy wheelie bars from jegs. The bracing belongs on the lower.

I have a set 60" bars leaning against the wall in my garage & the brackets to weld onto my axle also. I need to get them all mounted up one of the days.
