I assume it has a hydraulic cam if its a 70. But a solid cam motor will behave that way if the lash is way to tight. Also check the float levels.

Have you checked the length of the fuel pump push rod? Might look at it to see if it has failed on the end and worn down. I had a friend a couple years back that had a similar issue as you describe almost like a vapor lock issue and it was his fuel pump push rod. It just took him a while to find it. Good luck! Matt
Check this if it is a Mopar performance rod. Hughes Engines sells a hardened fuel pump pushrod. Mine was chewed up in under 1000 miles. A pic of the old and the new Hughes rod.

Sounds like ignition, change the condensor and change or clean the points if its a point ignition. If not check for a leaking coil.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

original point setup correct? (1) coil or ballast (got spares you can sub in one at a time for a quick test?) (2) block all (4) metering rod pistons up so you're on the power circuit and take it out again for a quick test (vac leak)
