Having taken a break on my '69 Charger since it's debut at MATS (thanks again everyone for the great advice and info!) I'm now back on my brothers '70 Roadrunner. B5 with White vinyl top and interior...the plate shows B7 color on the interior items that weren't white vinyl. When he first painted this car back in '86 it was in the school body shop (remember those?) and everything was sprayed fresh B7 centauri. Now it's going back to B5. What is the correct sheen on the inner door frames and the rear metal upper "pads". I'm relatively sure full gloss clear is wrong but I seem to think that the low gloss/ satin to near flat is also wrong. Thoughts?

I don't have it in front of me but there are two different paint formulas for int vs. ext. ....of course I painted my upper doors in full gloss F8 before learning this...

I did my dash in base clear and when I realized it was wrong, I had them apply satin clear over top and it looks darn close but that would be too flat for the upper door frames

Pretty sure it's gloss but I can look tonight. There are about 9 shades/finishes of blue on the inside of my car and it's been that way since new.

Now that I think of it, I had a blue 69 rr that had white interior and I think the door frame was white. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong?

All the white interiors I've seen have from the inside of the weatherstripping, interior door top and bottom painted gloss black. Same with upper back window panel. Outside of the weatherstripping body color.

Whoops, nevermind! I see now that I look at the govier report on my 70, the frame can come in several colors with different interiors. Sorry!

I'm sure of the color, B7. Just wanting clarification on the sheen. Full gloss with the clear just seems to look "wrong" Perhaps it's the aged originals in single stage that just appear to have lower gloss that have me confused

I could be wrong too. I was shopping for ideas as to what to do with my interior as I haven't had one since I pulled it out in'87 for some paint work. Only thing left of my blue interior are the coat hooks and seatbelts. I saw a couple of white seat/ door panel setups, all having black dash/door paint and I believe seat hinge covers/ seatbelts and figured that's the way they all were. Was this a special option? Did all B5 cars have B7 interiors? Don't mean to hijack!

I still have the roof rails that were B7 gloss, but the front headliner panel is satin like the dash and steering column were.

Likely because of b/c, not because of the age though that would play in some being 44 years old now, on original paint cars. Here's mine at 9 months old, in front of the house. They definitely were not as shiny as b/c, even when new.

Yep, dash, headliner panel and steering column were unique from the rest of the car in terms of finish.

As you can see in this example (thanks to Barry Washington and Andy440.com) there are several different paint colors. Using my '70 Dodge in F8 with matching interior as an example;

Gloss Interior: PPG 43926 (i.e. quarter window upper mouldings)
Gloss Exterior: PPG 43786 (i.e. all integral mouldings. door and quarter)
Low Gloss: PPG 43929
Suede Finish: PPG 43925 (i.e. instrument panel, steering column, windshield mouldings)

....as you can see there are four different paint codes for the color that is simply described on the fender tag as F8

Hope this helps.

Dave
