That's why I put a billet steel drum in the one I built over the winter. I saw the one the Foolish Pleasure RR blew up at Bristol several years ago. The transmission case was broken completely in half and the sun shell looked like you pried it open all the way around. The blanket did it's job, but was junk.

Arroyo Seco Raceway in Deming is not a sanctioned track (AFAIK) and the apparent lack of a blanket or shield, low band apply VB, or aftermarket front drum, knowing the individual, does not surprise me. Sorry to hear it tore up his car.

Yea, but if it's not a 10 second car, it isn't required to have a blanket nor a shield.

Related note on Sanctioned tracks and tech: In the last three years, been to Redding, Sac, Sonoma, Fallon and Famoso (NHRA OWNED, no less) NEVER had ONE tech guy look underneath for our trans protection on a low 10 second Duster. NOT ONE. Only ONE asked about it even.

Safety is really up the car owner/driver.

Unrelated note: That sure is "functional" bracket car.

funny part is it is always the SAME scenario,if you gave these guys a loaded gun, told them to point it at somebody and pull the trigger, would they wonder why that person ended up dead on the floor with a hole in them?....answer...yes!

I am thinking that I will have the 727 that was built in 2012 for the Ramcharger and never run refitted with a billet drum and a carbon fiber shield before I run it. If my grandson is hurt in my race car, his mother will never forgive me. BTW the Ramcharger has a Dana 60 with a spool, one less thing to worry about.

You may want to re-think the carbon fiber shield. Last year at Eddyville it did Don Bremmer no good. It looked like a ball of yarn, that what was left, that is. Didn't stop anything!

Been there, done that, at least my car has, I wasn't driving it went it sploded....I will keep my CSR shield on unless somthing better comes along. He was very lucky....When they do go, they go big...I think the newer bolt in sprags will help keep that from happening, but I would rather not test that theory.

Knowing the right way of racing a 727 helps too.

ding ding ding
I would be willing to bet that 99% of the ones that let go could be traced back to either driver error or a part failure in the driveline that should have resulted in a tear down and inspection that didn't get done.

I see way to many people where they are backing up and slap it in drive with out stopping, or have a motor that idles way to high and dropping it in gear getting on and off the throttle in 1st, doing a burnout and then putting it in N to clear the motor and not rolling the car far enough forward to re load the sprag ect ect ect.

But we always blame the unit. Flame away
