I recently picked up a 2014 Ram 1500 HEMI. Per the window sticker, 3.21 is standard and 3.55 comes with the 26Y package. On the axle, I found a sticker that says, among other things, 3.21.

Does this mean I've got a 3.21 axle? Or is there any chance they swap out the gears separately after the fact? Am I going to have any way of knowing which gears I've got?

Call the dealer with your VIN handy. They can search the number through their network and tell you what ratio it was built with.

do they still put a sticker in the glove box with that info? my 03 dakota has it.

Nothing in the glove box relating to options on the truck. I will give the dealer a shout with the VIN and see what they say.

Whatever the tag says is what you have. NO WAY would there be changing of gearsets on the assembly line.
They stick in an axle assembly, whatever the paperwork calls for. If the paperwork doesn't specify, then they put in the standard item.

The Equipment Listing tool on the RAM Trucks website says "3.21 Rear Axle Ratio" and "Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle".

This document lists every option specifically, and it seems to have everything from the 26Y package listed on the windows sticker except for the 3.55 rear axle ratio.

I guess this means I probably have a 3.21 anti-spin rear axle.

I wonder if the 3.55 is worth raising a stink about to see if I can get it swapped out? After all, both the window sticker and RAM website say this truck comes with a 3.55 rear axle.

The dealership is checking on the 3.55 rear issue.

Jacked up the rear end and the tires spun in opposite directions. I'm getting mixed input on whether that means open or anti-spin, so I decided to test it the old fashioned way. Two black tracks, it's anti-spin.

even a peg leg diff can spin both tires at times..

I've found the open vs anti-spin issue discussed in great depth, and it seems the newer Rams have an anti-spin diff that acts like an open diff when there's no load. So I'm confident I'm good there. Just curious what Ram Trucks will say about my ratio now, though.

I'm getting the feeling the 3.55 was discontinued, but whatever systems manage the website and window stickers didn't get the memo. I just checked the RAM website again, and I can no longer get the 3.55 with the HEMI. Looks like I may be on to something!

Why not just find a level length of pavement,
mark the driveshaft where it can be seen from the side with chalk,
and mark with chalk the bottom tread of the tires where you can see it from the rear,
then push the truck 10 (or 100 ) rotations of the tires
while someone counts rotations of the driveshaft?

If you place a bathroom scale against the rear bumper as you push you can also make an estimate of the
"coefficient of rolling resistance" abbreviated Crr
of the Ram's tires.

For example if it takes an average of
55 lbs reading on the bathroom scale
to push the 5500 lb Ram
at a steady speed once it gets rolling,
then the tires Crr is 1%
( 55/5500 x 100%)

Think of it as unusual daily exercise!

My case with Chrysler has been open for over 2 weeks, and they have yet to even admit to the problem. I'm not having any luck getting my case manager return any of my voice mails lately.

Not a good first impression for a first time Chrysler buyer.
