getting back to the original post, my '68 R/T is coded on the fender tag for wheelwell and rocker moldings and not for the exhaust tips but it has them anyway (and always has)
All the chrome doodads, including tips, were part of the R/T package (except the CA cars) and the tag and/or BS may or may not be coded for them seperately. They were optional on Bees.

Not to be picky, but the original post mentioned the 1970 model year.. Also, you mentioned you car always had them. I'm taking it you're the original owner of the car or bought it from the original owner. Could very well have had them originally, but as an option. Using the point of "all R/T models came with all chrome doodads" is false. My v-code '70 Charger R/T didn't have them, wasn't on the BS. It came with turn-downs....... Either that, or someone took the tips off somewhere down the road. If the bright tips where standard on R/T and Superbees only, then why would there be a $20+ option cost listed.
Just food for thought or I'm missing something.

"This info is taken trom the 1970 Dodge Pocket Salesman's Guide posted on Hamtramck Historical. Does anyone have the '70 PLYMOUTH version? It would be great to see it posted also."
The 70 Plymouth salesman pocket book is hard to find and $$$ when you do.
The 70 Plymouth data book will be on HH soon.

Posts that stray from the original question often indicate how unknown the answers to these questions are. Differences exist within a model year & model. Bringing other years and models into the question doesn't help to clarify the question or answer. I know I am guilty of this also in my post above, but I was trying to point out the facts of the differences within Dodge in the '70 model year, after the Challengers got thrown into the post. So ... does anybody have a b'cast sheet (or LA fender tag) for a '70 Coronet R/T, Super Bee or Charger R/T that shows: N42 N95 N97 ?? I think the original question was answered, N42 was an OPTION ($20.80 ) on '70 Coronet R/Ts.It would be listed on the b'cast sheet or window sticker, and on a LA assembled car's fender tag.

Not an LA built car but a Lynch Road 70 440-6 4 speed bee I used to own. The broadcast sheet for my old car has N95 N96 N97 AND N42 on it!

I'll check my Superbee 440+6 BS when I get home. I don't know if it has N97, but it does have N42 and N95.
I can't check on my old 70 R/T as I sent the BS to the new owner

Nope ... originally FJ5 "lime light", but custom painted early in its life.

[image] [/image] I know these are not B bodies but I would think B&E cars would be the same for California. These two tags are from a couple of 1970 cudas I have, a 440+6 & 440 4bbl. Both cars are 4 speeds both cars have n95 but the shaker car has turned down exhaust. I was told years ago that if you had fresh air intake the tips would be deleted for noise reduction. The 440 4bbl... n41, n42, n95 The 440+6... n41, n95, n96, n97

That's the problem & source of confusion. You can't compare apples to oranges, in this case b-bodies to e-bodies or 1970 Coronets to 1968 Coronets or 440-4bbl to 440-6bbl.
On an e-body the SHAKER had nothing to do with N97 - "noise reduction".

Then please explain why the noise reduction is on the shaker car.
In California n95 + n96 got you n97 on an e body. I am sure that a few might have slipped through, but they would have been an anomaly. You must remember 1970 was the first year for earth day, and all kinds of pollution were targeted to be reduced including noise pollution. Here in California the intake volume through the fresh air system made enough noise along with the exhaust note to be over the limit, so you got n97.
Why does the 440 4 bbl have tips? Do you think the guy that bought the 6bbl didn't have the $20 for tips, or maybe he didn't want the ev2 shaker car to be too flashy with chrome tips?

The difference IS the 6bbl on an E-body!! Quote:
For 1970
CHALLENGER N95 - Evaporative Control System - required on all cars registered in the State of California N.A. otherwise .......... $37.85 N97 - Noise Reduction Package - required on all cars registered in the state of California equipped with 440-6 engines or 426 Hemi .......... N.C.
This info is taken trom the 1970 Dodge Pocket Salesman's Guide posted on Hamtramck Historical.
N97 - Noise reduction was accieved in different ways on different body platforms, again California "only". E-body - eliminate N42 "bright exhaust tips" from 440-6 & Hemi cars.
I will "assume" Plymouth's 'Cuda was dealt with in the same manner (in California).

I thought those cars never got tips anyway. Neither did 70 383 N code E-bodies
Only non performance package (R/T, GTX, RR..) cars I can think of that got dual chrome tips were 70 A66 Challengers, 71 340 Challengers (non R/T), and maybe 71 Charger S/E 440 cars???
Getting off subject with tips, would be the 64-66 273 HP single big resonator chrome tips. Did every 273 HP get them? Or just Dart GT's and Formula "S". You could get a 273 HP Dart station wagon.

I believe we were talking N95 - "CA emissions" & N97 - "CA noise reduction". or was it N42 - "tips" on a Coronet R/T that started this?
