Does any one know of an abrasive tool for conditioning rotors?? I saw a new product advertised a couple of weeks ago I thought would really work well. Now my wife is complaining that her Challenger's brakes are squeaking.... While I'm at it I want to remove the glaze on the rotor. Any ideas??
Thanks,

Scott

Just use what i used at the shop and I do at home.My die grinder with a rolok pad.At work when we could turn rotors I let them spin and hit both sides.Home I just work it around the rotor. There was also a Tech bulliten years ago.It said that to quiet squeals take a sharp screwdriver and pull it across the rotor and it leaves small marks.I went fron hub side to the outside. It actually worked.Brake pad compound on the stell part also makes a big difference.Rocky

I've used a DA body sander with an 80grit pad for years. works for me.

Great tip Rocky. Thanks! I just use sand paper too on a die grinder or DA set on single action with 80 or 100 grit. Sometimes just scuff it with the sand paper by hand to break the glaze.

I also follow a strict break-in procedure with new pads, until they bed in good.

jbc I started using ceramic pads.Had Bendix best on the 65.I went ceramics and the stopping is great.Plus no dust and my price was under 30 bucks at Advanced.Just put them on my brothers Caravan also. The PT will get them when I replace the brakes in about a month.Rocky

I've been using Wagner thermo quiest on my 2004 Grand Cherokee and until this Jeep I swore by them , now worst pad ever , I only get a few months before the rotors are glazed and the pedal and the vehicle shake badly.

Hoping I can get that brake hone tool locally , going back to regular pads , deglaze and trade this POS in ...

Double R what changed? was it a pad composition material change or just the vehicle?

RR we used to use them at the shop.On the ambulances we used the severe duty ones. Then on almost every car we used Advanced Golds.Never any problems.I use them on all my relatives cars. The wifes PT has about 65K on a set.Its about time for new ones though.Same with the big name rotors. We used only them. Then went to store brands and had basically no problems.I had more problems with the name brands than I want to remember. After you do a few thousand brake jobs you learn what works and what dosent.Rocky

I don't know what changed all I know is that I have put 3 sets of fronts and 2 sets of back on this thing in the 30 months I have owned it and the common denominator is the Wagner Thermoquite brake pads. First 2 sets of rotors were Pronto store boxed Chinese made, braking surfaces are thinner than original, next set on the front were centrics , thicker braking surfaces like factory. I figured they would cure it, the pulsating started faster than with the cheaper rotors. I'm going back to regular pads and deglaze the rotors if they show true on the lathe. Hopefully I trade it before it starts again.

The brake pads work great till the pulsating starts , you can see the marks from pulsating on the rotor surfaces .
