I'm trying to finish my car before I graduate HS the first week of June and I need some help. I'm putting a '78 440 out of a Winebago into my '65 Coronet. Having problems finding the correct alternator & alt bracket for this. Have heard "yes this is the part you need" waaaay too many times.....and of course it isn't what we need. No A/C and no power steering. All I need is the correct pulleys for crank, H2O pump, & alternator.....along with bracket. Thanks.

There are only two brackets. One looks like a triangle and the other is a longer piece with a slot. I got mine from 440 Source for $30 and they worked great. As for the alternator goes it has more to do with the car you are using and how the charging system is setup/targeted; Squareback, round, number of fields, wiring harnesses, voltage regulator etc.

You will need to buy a single belt which will run between the water pump, alternator and crank. You can get that from your local part store. Just ask for a 440 Alternator belt for a Dodge B300 or 70 Cuda with a 440 without AC.

Lastly, you will need a bolt and spacer kit for the alternator and brackets. 440 Source has these as well for $17. I have heard people complain about 440Source as some of their parts are from China but for things like this, I think they are great.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm a little slow getting back. Looking forward to gaining some knowledge and getting my car on the road.

My alternator bracket and water pump pulley are originals, but I bought a crank pulley and the spacer kit from 440Source and I thought it was great. Much cheaper than "Resto" stuff from other sources, and the quality was nice. I'd buy the other stuff from them in a heartbeat. Pick up one of each of the crank pulley spacers too just in case.

As said the alternator will be a "for your car" application. Avoid the temptation to go with some ultra high amp replacement alternator. Use a 35-45ish amp unit, your car probably came with something in the mid to high 30s. You need a single field setup. If you still have a points style voltage regulator convert to the replacement electronic.
