Since the 413 has decided it wanted to get pulled out of the 62 New Yorker, we may well put a new Hemi or mag 5.9 in the old ride. One of my biggest concerns is what to use as a fuel pump. The 62s gas tank is long, skinny and fairly flat, it about 6"-8" high, and has a fuel gauge about 2 1/2" in diameter. I don't think a newer fuel pump will fit very well in the 62s original tank, and there also is no provision for a return line into the tank at all.
What are you guys that are using the newer EFI doing? Gene

I know this isn't the answer you are looking for. I used the OEM fuel pump in my Gen 3 installation. Since I have a PU I simply mounted an 04 Dakota tank in the bed of my truck and installed the fuel pump from the 03 RAM that donated the Hemi. However, this may be a viable option for your installation.

A couple of options both using an external EFI pump. External pumps work best with flooded suction.

First option is get a sump kit from Summit or Jegs and weld it into your stock tank and use the original pick up tube for your return.

Option 2 would be a fuel cell in the trunk.

I used option #2 on my 66 New Yorker because the original tank was rough and a fuel cell was cheaper than a new replacement and it solved the return line dilemma.

No first hand experience with this, but this is new from Edelbrock and looks like a nice option:

You mount this wherever you have the room.

And it is filled by the engine's mechanical fuel pump.
It's the kind of idea that I wish I'd had first!

Do you have a link where I can have a good look at that? Gene

We have a Walbro GLS392 255LPH pump in a custom built fuel cell that's feeding a supercharged 289 in my dad's Falcon. If you're going stock it may be overkill, but they're dirt cheap and I've had great luck with them.

Did similar back in the 90's when I put EFI on my Diplomat. Ebrock wants a fortune for it. You can fab it up yourself out of metal for a lot less. I used my engine's mechanical pump o fill the reservoir, with the EFI pump (inline) being fed by the sump, had an overflow/vent back to the tank. Heck, you could probably make it out of 2" black/galvanized pipe if you don't weld.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

you want the reservoir to at least hold a quart of fluid if not more. also your fuel rail return line should be connected here as well.
