hello friends
time to choose roller lifters for a 650 lift fun street cam. will the 66284 work with a stock 440 block. i am told by one person they will but then another says they won't. the person that says they will not work says it is because stock blocks with solid flat tappet had smaller holes for oiling and the hydraulic flat tappet blocks had bigger holes for oiling. is this true? how would i find out and can i use the 66284in a stock 440 block? I have a friend that is willing to sell these so it is either a yes or bust.

When the block is cast they have NO CLUE where the
block will go let along what cam is going in it...
so thats BS... maybe some years had a slightly smaller
hole in the lifter bores but I even doubt that.. but
it could have been a error if there was a bit smaller

Pretty sure no 440s came with solid flat tappets. Max Wedge 413-426, but not the 440.

Simply not true like Mike mentions. Now their production tolerances, thats another story in itself....

I wish those hole were a lot smaller.. it would help
with some of the larger lift cams so they wouldnt
uncover the lifter ring area... but most times its
the champfer on the top of the lifter bores that is
the problem along with that hole

so would the 66284 be good to use in a stock block? the guy at crower said they should be used for aftermarket blocks with different oiling and that i should be looking at the 66233 instead. he said 66284 is used more in a after market block because of a different bearing used in the lifter. that is what does not make sense to me.

I've used the Crower race solid roller lifters with the .820 or .850(CRS disease ) diameter wheels with good results on the street I don't remember the part number now but they where the ones with the solid bodys, no cut outs on the main bodys or pressure oiling to the axles. Most of the iron aftermarket blocks have the raised, taller, lifter bores so you need a taller body or a taller top for the link bars to clear the blocks Lots of choices out there, I have used a bunch of different ones over the years, buy good ones once, not cheaper bad ones more than once

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
