So I have had my car apart since 2009. I am putting it together and ran across an issue with the brake light switch. I never took the pedals out, and only replaced the master cylinder. Now the brake light switch is too far to the drivers side, and slightly too high. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it is about the bolt head length away. What am I missing?? Is the bolt in backwards?? Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Looks like the switch bracket is bent and out of adjustment.

Looks to me that the switch is not in the bracket at a 90 degree angle as it should be. Notice how the switch/clip is leaning to the right in relation to the mounting hole area. Try straighening it, that will move the contact towards the rod. In addition to that, it is possible the bracket is bent a little as mentioned already.

You want the white round plastic head on the switch plunger to be way over to the pass side so it contacts the pedal arm not the MC pushrod or the bolt head. As said pull the wires/remove the switch/bracket & bend it flat & mock it back up. It sure seems like it is way off (but as we know pic perspective does lie) which I ain't grasping how that happened since you never moved/unbolted the mini screw but only undid the big bolt/nut to replace the MC

Just crawled up underneath the dash of my 68 Charger (in limited door opening space) OUCH!!!! you owe me, LOL

Does not Appear to be a spacer. The switch is actuated by the
back side/ top angle of the pushrod. Hope that makes sense.
So it would appear that your switch as pictured needs to go towards the right or passenger side of the vehicle. is the bracket slotted left to right for the switch position ???

hope this helps a bit

I had a similar problem when I changed out boosters.
I built a small bracket that bolted up to the pedal, so when it moved to the switch there was more surface area to hit the button on it.

Ahhh so unlike A bodies (All I work on ex a D100 truck or 2) where the round nub is actuated from the brake pedal arm, B bodies make contact on the rear end of the pushrod hex. I learned sumpin today

So I took my bracket off. It looks nothing like the above picture of the 68 Charger. The bracket is bent, so now I am looking through my pile of parts to see if I have another one. Thanks for all the help!!!!

Easy fix.Just take the switch out put the bracket in a vice and bend it some.Ive seen them bent worse than that. The one in my 65 was bent real bad.Someone tried to pull the rod out of the master with it in the car.I actually bent it back in the car.I was younger then and working under the dash wasnt bad.Rocky

NITROUSN, I am correct in saying your switch makes contact with the plate/bracket in the pic, and not the pushrod or pedal arm?

Thats an illusion. The pedal is hanging low in the picture. The switch does hit the rod end.

So here is what I did to fix it. Thanks first to the pictures in the thread, they helped a lot.

The bracket was bent. So after fighting to get it out I fought to bend it back. After bending it back I noticed in the pictures that it is bolted to the car with the top two holes, and mine was bolted using the bottom two. I bolted it up like the pictures and it works perfectly!!

OK, thanks for clarifying.
