my car has a sunroof in it and i am thinking about closing the hole before it is painted. i know the best way is the put a whole new roof but that is not something i want to do as the rest of the car is done. what i would like to know is if its a good idea to get a piece of roof from another similar car and flange my roof and weld it in? will it be strong enough? will you be able to tell after its painted? would filler crack on the roof? anybody ever done this?

also anybody have any photos of mopar a bodies with aftermarket sunroofs installed? i was also thinking i dont have a/c and it might be nice to have a sunroof to help keep me cool?

thanks for your time and any help is appreciated

I bought a car that had a crappy aftermarket sunroof in it and decided to cover the hole. I had a roof from another car to use. I figured that the subtle curve of the donor roof would help make it an "invisible" repair.
I put a recessed flange around the hole in the roof and cut the donor roof section to fit. My mediocre welder and skills resulted in a so-so repair. I ended up covering my sins with a black vinyl top!

sounds like what i want to do. do you think its a good idea? im confident in my welding skills and i think it should turn out good that you wont be able to see it when painted. i definitely dont want a vinyl

Having a sunroof is'nt really a bad thing...Especially for a car without AC...Is the unit ugly ??? If its already in there why not enjoy it ?
