This is the tag from a 72 RR I'm contemplating purchasing. The owner is a member here and gave permission for me to post with the edited VIN.
The reason for my post is I'm concerned as the top two lines (from the top) are crooked and the letters and numbers seem misaligned, and the trim tag screw hole cuts off part of the N in N96? But, the remainder of the tag seems ok.
Some background on the car: seller states he is the 2nd owner and that this is the original tag. Car has been restored. No build sheet to confirm the tag. I'll be posting the front and back of the tag. I'd like opinions please, as I haven't encountered this before.
Thanks

It appears to be a repop to me. The trim codes and vertical alignments appear to be good, but the line spacing and font alignment are terrible. Unfortunately I do not have enough Winsor built 72 runners around that time frame to tell if the VON makes sense or not.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I'll get some more opinions so I can make an informed decision.

That does not look like my 1972 RR Windsor built tag.
None of my numbers or letters are out of aligment.
The squence number is way different for a car built two months later.
My 2 cents is that is not original.

Thank you!
Your font seems crisper, but I can see how fresh paint on the tag I posted could make the font seem less crisp.

Look at the similarities between the 2 tags, they are both crooked as heck. The "R11"s are both mis-aligned & if there was another line of codes on the red car - the LH screw hole would be thru the first code on the line.

Now that u say that;
I do see the R11 and the END have similar stampings.
The first (1)in both R11's have a slight dip to them, and the ND in END in both pictured tags have a slight dip to them. Also, the 9 in N96 dips on both tags. I think that's a good sign. Thank u Dan

These numbers should be somewhat close shouldn't they? VON numbers

Also not one of all the pictures of Windsor plant tags I have for 72 have a code punched through with the screw hole.
My numbers are not as out of alignment as these or on any of the examples I have.
Believe me or not but in my opinion this tag is a reproduction.

Vehicle Order Numbers originate at Chrysler or the ordering dealer, they are all over the ballpark.
& another '72 Windsor tag that would've had screw hole issues if the car had more equipment/OPTIONS.

I understand we are all here to help each other out and free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.
I have lots of examples of tags full to the top line with codes from the Windsor plant.
NONE of mine have a hole/screw punch through a code.
Here are a few that are not (not would have).
For what it's worth.

Hmm... That's very interesting!
I guess the plot thickens.
Thanks for posting.

I asked the current owner, if there's any pics, so we'll see.
