Tire Rack has a 195/70-15 Continental Vanco on clearance right now. They are about 26" tall but just a little wider than you spec'd. They are a D rated capacity tire rated to 65lbs air pressure.

I run them and they hold the front of the car real well. A very good choice for $108, I think.

Master, again and still

195/65/15 Falkens. I was forced to buy them on drag week last year when I had a front tire failure. I like them better than the 165s I had on there. It looks a little better and drives slightly better.

How do you guys feel about running these radials past there speed rating? All these tires are s speed rated so that's only good to 112mph.

Same here, on 5" rims. IIRC, they're about 27" tall, but I can't recall the tread width. I have 275/60R15s on the back which are closer to 28" tall.

I ran on the 165R15 tires for a long time and never had a problem. Lots of FAST cars around here are on them too. The speed rating thing is for sustained speeds, not for short bursts like in drag racing.

Yes I have 165r15 on my car too, no problems in the eights so far. Its something that's been in my head lately. And the race tires don't even have a speed rating.

The speed rating on the tire is for "SUSTAINED" speeds over a long period of time. Running over the rated speed for a few seconds, in my humble opinion, isn't going to hurt the tire unless there is some physical damage already done to the tire. This is why you should check over the car before driving it.

My buddy would get on me for running the street tire rated at 112mph also and I told him the same thing thats its only for 10 seconds at a time not a long drive. Ron

Running those non speed rated tires is an accident waiting to happen....just because it has happened to you or someone you know yet, doesn't mean it won't happen.

Those tires were designed for lighter cars, sustained speeds or not. I am an idiot for ever running them for one season, which is why they came off very soon after

so obviously you know my opinion

LOL thanks

Also, M&H makes a nice speed rated radial front runner that is imo better looking then the flame tread of the sportsman S/R radial...not sure what sizes in terms of height they have

I stick with the street tires because I mostly drive on the street and only race about twice a year and I dont want to street drive on the front race tires all the time. I dont think its a big risk myself for me. Ron

The radials in the link below are the ones I am talking about...I think street driving on the cheapy tires is more dangerous then racing them, thats just my opinion though

I run the MT Sportsman S/T Radials. They look like BFG radial T/A's. They are a good tire but I don't know if they come in a size as small as you are looking for.

I like to get a front tire as close to as tall as the rear as possible. I think it help weight transfer and it does help with ground clearance.

I'm looking at the sportsman for the spare set of
tires for racing.. I like my road racing type tire
for the street.. they handle very well but are a BIT
wide for the track
