OK, it's getting cold, so it's time to replace the heater core in the 72 Charger (with A/C). I think the original p/n is 3441180.

Doing a few searches brings back several different makers such as Proliant, Ready Aire, and Four Seasons. Any of those the best?

Any I should stay away from? Any experiences?

Thanks! JK (mity225@mchsi.com)

Not that I know of. I would add some extra solder around the in/out heater hose, and have it leak tested before I put it in. The solder joints are usually really weak there - I broke one putting it in the heater box one time.

I don't know about b body but never found one that fit my a body. I tried a proliant and a ready aire and one from the local parts mart with no name on it. I still have my original and if I can find a shop have it repaired.

I rebuilt my '73 RR A/C box this past spring. I was very happy with the Four seasons Heater core. I think it was made in the usa. Might have been on the shelf awhile?

I rebuilt my box this summer, '71 RR with air. I replaced the heater core and the evaporator core. If my memory is correct only one or two manufacturers makes the heater core for everyone. Other places put their name on them, giving confusion to the public. You can get one from O'reillys, Autozone, etc for around $40 bucks. Just match it up to the holes in the box and drill for the bolts( BE CAREFUL!). Its the evaporator core that's hard to find. BTW I kept my old one for a spare

So.... where DID you find your evaporator core? Ive got a 70 Dart Swinger that came with factory A/C, and a 225 slant six. I hope to change the slant 6 for a small block, so am looking for ideas on keeping a factory A/C system going. Texas heat is a killer. Ive looked at the aftermarket systems, and really want to keep the a/c and heater plenums original. That evaporator core is my biggest issue to find. Please help?
Thanks from a n0000bie.

Yep! I went with a Proliant one. It was for my brother-in-law's car. We have yet to install it.

I checked the business I bought it from. While they list ones for a 70 Dart, it doesn't say whether it's for an A/C car or not. You should make sure the one you buy is listed for an A/C car since there is likely a difference.

Good Luck! JK mity225@mchsi.com

I replaced one in a Dart last year and in my Charger this year and I got them both from Auto Zone and they both went in with no problems. I hear some guys talk about fitment problems but I have not experienced it. Both were less than $50 each.
